Ebs’ Hot Takes: Clayton Kershaw, Odell Beckham Jr., The College Football Playoff

WILKES-BARRE, PA –  The fall is truly the greatest time of the year. Football is underway, it’s the postseason in kershaw2the MLB, the NHL is back and the greatest event in horse racing is right around the corner. It’s truly wonderful.

Oh, it also means that we’re just a bit closer to the winter, which means I can ski again.

Enjoy the latest batch of Ebs’ Hot Takes!

Clayton Kershaw is no longer a fantasy bum. You know how everybody, myself excluded, is quick to call Peyton Manning the greatest regular-season quarterback of all-time, but not the greatest quarterback of all-time? For years Clayton Kershaw has been the MLB’s Peyton Manning. That stops now.

Kershaw has been a beast this postseason. Aside from his 5-run start in NLDS Game 4 against the Washington Nationals, Kershaw has been as close to unhittable as it can get.

kershaw3The Los Angeles Dodgers ace’s truly defining moment came on short rest in Game 5, entering in the bottom of the ninth inning with two men on and having to get two outs. Kershaw could have easily collapsed and people probably wouldn’t have blamed him. I know I wouldn’t have.

Personally, I thought he should have came in at the top of the inning and not in the middle, but that’s just my opinion. That’s probably why I don’t manager professional baseball teams and cover them instead.

Kershaw is making his case to be the best pitcher of all-time.

I admit it, I’m too hard on Odell Beckham Jr. As a Buffalo Bills fan, I’ve had it out for Odell Beckham Jr. from the start.

The Bills could have sat their at nine and taken OBJ, but instead traded the house to get Sammy Watkins. Now,

I’m not going to sit here and say that Beckham is better than Watkins, because I’m not sure he is. Talk to me when Beckham has EJ Manuel, Thad Lewis, Jeff Tuel and Kyle Orton throwing to him for two years.

However, I’ll admit that Beckham is a freak talent-wise, and it was on full display Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Does he still have to work on the way he handles his emotions? Yes. But he’s making strides in that department. Just keep your helmet on when you’re still on the field, man.

Oh, I could have also used this hot take to discuss how LeSean McCoy is the best player in the NFL right now, but I decided against it. Didn’t want to catch any more flack than I already do.

We’re going to be in for a great College Football Playoff. I love the way the College Football Playoff is setting up.

harbaughIf I had to guess, I think it probably goes No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Clemson, No. 4 Louisville or Michigan. But of course that can change.

I’d love to see Action Jackson in the College Football Playoff. A rematch of Clemson-Louisville would be too lit. At this point, Bama has shown no signs of slowing down, Ohio State and Clemson both got their wakeup calls Saturday, Louisville is an extremely exciting ball club to watch and there’s just something about Jim Harbaugh.

P.S. I stumbled into this when I was watching some of the highlight’s from this weekend’s SNL.
