Pick One: Manny Machado or Bryce Harper? One Yankees Fan Ponders

SPANISH HARLEM – At point-blank range, signing one of two of best players in baseball would seem easy. As we have come to find out, though… not so much. Two players in their prime, full of potential…. Two of the ten best players in baseball… You can’t deny they are both special. If you had all the money in the world, which player would you sign, Manny Machado or Bryce Harper? It depends on what you love of about the sport. Let’s take a look.

The New York Yankees have been tied to Bryce Harper since he became a baseball player; Mickey Mantle… the number 7. I remember reading about him and realizing that he wouldn’t be a Yankee. He was too good to draft and the Yankees always drafted late. As fans, we waited, and waited and now was the time to pounce. Sign the greatest young slugger in the game. It was only a matter of time.

Then Didi Gregorius got hurt, Tommy John surgery to be exact, and so Machado became an option. He was/is too good to pass up. At 26, he is in the prime of his career, yet we don’t know what the Yankees will do. They didn’t sign the best pitcher available, they settled for JA Happ. Money was never an issue but here we are and no one knows what’s next. The best player would be a shoo-in as a Yankee… not so much now. I’m not the smartest person in the room but if I had the money the Yankees have, I would have called the market.

Machado or Harper: Ferrari or a Lamborghini?

So…

The two best players in baseball are still out there and one has to come off the board, sooner rather than later. It’s about time this organization made a splashy move. It’s welcomed. It’s expected. Yet here we are, hoping and praying something happens. We win championships, and we want more than that… it’s legacy. We want the best players in the world to wear pinstripes and this is the opportunity to do just that. No more waiting, no more wanting. It’s time to bring that trophy home.

The Yanks are primed and ready and nothing says I’m ready to win more than signing the best star in the sport – and here are two. So, here’s my advice: Act like the New York Yankees and sign one of them, choose one but choose wisely.

You know who I’d pick.
