Bronx, NY: NFL training camps have gotten rolling but there’s not much to talk about yet. Eh, Daniel Jones will probably lead the Colts to a championship this year anyway. Baseball is dragging on and Judge is on the IL. I guess I’ll write about the fading Yanks, looking as sturdy as a popsicle stick house in a firepit. Let’s do it.
The Bronx Fade
With the Yankees now 5.5 games behind the Jays in the East through Sunday, and only a game ahead of the Red Sox, Cashman has got some work to do. He got the ball rolling by acquiring a mediocre platoon at 3B! Let’s gooo. The platoon is Ryan McMahon, a lefty with some pop and a good glove, and Amed Rosario, a journeyman who will play against lefties and give them some position flexibility. These moves are about as sexy as a Chris Christie sex tape, but hey, it’s an improvement.
But if they don’t do some major reconstruction on the pitching staff, they might as well put Dale Berra back at 3B. Does anyone remember when he and Bobby Mecham got nailed at the plate on the same play with the double tag? Rough era for the Yanks. I did not remember that Ricky Henderson was the hitter on the play. Rest easy, Ricky.
Brief (hopefully) Recess in Judge’s Court

The only real reason to watch the Yankees just went on the IL anyway. And when Judge comes back, he might have to be the DH for a while. That will cause some problems with the positionless Big G Stanton, who will likely be become a well-compensated pinch hitter. But the Yankees are apparently flirting with the idea of sticking him in RF a bit to keep him in the lineup. My dog Chief would be a better choice. Put some peanut on the ball and my guy will track it down. This team is screwed.
I’ll say it again. It doesn’t matter if they kidnap Juan Soto and bring him back to the Bronx under an alias and fake mustache. They’re not going anywhere without some serious pitching help. The fact is, the Yankees haven’t given Cashman any reason to believe they can make a playoff run. The prudent move here is not to part with any top prospects out of desperation to please an antsy fan base.
Things are not looking good for Los Bombarderos. Cashman needs to pull three or four bunnies out of his butt and work some serious magic.
That’s it for me. Come back tomorrow for Angry Ward, unless he’s on vacation. Could be a pinch hitter. Don’t miss it.
