PORT JEFF, NY – As we sit here and wait for baseball to resume, we have some other topics to discuss… Jets Lock up Their Own, Mets Deadline Needs.
The Jets are locking up their own as they kick off a new era of Jets football, with Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson as the cornerstones. This past week, Gang Green secured two key pieces on both sides of the ball. It’s clear the Jets are focused on finding ways to win and sustain success. Drafting and developing homegrown talent is obviously a smart strategy to stay competitive, and this new era of the Jets is off to a flying start.
Mets Deadline Needs
Last week, we touched on their plans briefly, but this time let’s focus on three key positions where the Mets can improve. One area is a reliable lefty in the bullpen. While Brooks Raley’s return for the second half of the season will undoubtedly provide a much-needed boost, relying on a 37-year-old pitcher coming off Tommy John surgery isn’t ideal. The Mets should consider looking to Texas and inquiring about another veteran lefty, Hoby Milner. Milner, who was with Stearns in Milwaukee, would bring a crucial shutdown left-handed option to the bullpen.

Another area of some concern with the Mets is starting pitching, even with the returns of Manaea and Senga and the all-star David Peterson, the front of the Mets rotation should be set, but as they say you can never have enough pitching, Mitch Keller of the Pirates and Edward Cabrera of the Marlins are more realistic options, if the Minnesota Twins were to fall far enough out of the race, Joe Ryan would be a game changer to the ceiling of the Mets starting rotation.
The final problem position is third base. It’s been a revolving door for the Mets this year, and there are plenty of options available. Eugenio Suarez of the Diamondbacks tops almost everyone’s list, but another name to consider is Ryan McMahon of the Rockies. McMahon always seems to be on the trade block but never gets moved. He’s not having his usual offensive season, so his asking price might be lower than in past years. McMahon would strengthen the Mets’ lineup and bolster their defense, as he’s outstanding at the hot corner and can also play second and first base.
There’s my two cents, feel free to leave yours below.
