SAN FRANCISCO, CA – I’m finishing up a vacation in the Bay Area. Where the San Francisco Giants have tanked since trading for Devers, they REALLY love the Warriors, and are not too high on the 49ers offseason. I managed to catch some New York Giants’ preseason action and heard some tough news about Mariano Rivera, one of my all time favorites. With every mediocre closer the Yankees bring on, from Chapman to Williams, I miss him more.
Jackson Throws Darts
It’s obviously only one pre-season game, against a vanilla wafer defense and no game planning. But still, Jackson Dart looked pretty good on Saturday. He had a sweet TD throw under pressure, dodged blitzers, and even had a nice run. 12 for 17 with a TD and no picks. We’ll take it.
I’m still hoping we don’t see much of him this year. But, I daresay he might be a bit farther along in his development than we thought.
If the Giants start poorly, which is not unlikely with their schedule, there is gonna be a ton of pressure to play him.
Reason 1: Daboll and Schoen trying to keep their jobs.
Reason 2: Giants have to see if he’s the franchise or if they should consider drafting a top QB from the vaunted ‘26 class.
Reason 3: Give the fans some hope.
Oh Mo!

In case you missed it, Mariano Rivera tore his achilles in the Old Timer’s Game. Apparently, he was a position player in this one. He ripped a hit off Andy Pettitte and then collapsed playing center field. Tough break.
This makes me feel better about passing on playing in a recent rugby alunni game. The glory days are over. There is no good reason to get back out there. Next time, wave to the crowd, then lob in some meatballs for the hitters.
Speaking of meatballs, Angry Ward is here tomorrow I think.
