Mets Inconsistencies, Season Outlook
After sweeping the Phillies and pulling within four games of the division lead, it seemed like they’d finally broke out of their second half slump and appeared poised for a late charge at the division title. Now they’ve dropped two of three to the Marlins and while the Phils have won three straight to take a commanding six-game lead. On the bright side, the offense has exploded scoring 31 runs in the three games. The bullpen however continues to be a disaster. Helsley and The Other Soto have both struggled immensely. Rogers has been very inconsistent and Diaz has even had his issues. I cant figure this team out. Some nights they look like the best team in baseball and others like the worst. I do, however, think they have as much upside as any team in the league if they play to their ceiling. Soto, Lindor and Alonso form one of the best top half of the lineups in baseball. Add Vientos, who’s slugging upwards of .800 the last two weeks, and Nimmo who very quietly has been the team’s most consistent hitter all year and is on pace to blow past his career high of 24 HRs.
As for the rotation, that also continues to be very inconsistent. McLean has been incredible over his first three starts. Peterson has been mostly good – aside from being obliterated for 8 runs yesterday, and Senga and Manaea have been flat out bad the last month. As I already stated, the ceiling is very clear it’s whether or not they can put it all together for the final month of the season and make a final push for the division.
Parsons to Packers
In a stunning blockbuster, the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Packers in exchange for two first round picks and Kenny Clark. We rarely see players in their prime at this level traded in the NFL. A lot of the reaction to this is that it’s a clear win for the Packers. This is absolutely a fantastic move for Green Bay, for the last few years it felt like the Packers were a good team that just didn’t have enough fire power to get over the top and compete with the elite teams in the NFL. Parsons immediately elevates them to that level.
If Jordan Love can stay healthy this is easily the second best team in the NFC. As for the Cowboys, I actually don’t hate this move for them. They aren’t a good team, with or without Parsons. May as well get as much for him as possible, and they did. It doesn’t make much sense for Dallas to pay another star player top of the line money when the rest of the roster is well below average.
