PORT JEFF, NY — Happy Friday. The weather’s warming up, the sports calendar is packed, and for once, New York fans have a few reasons to feel optimistic. The Mets are finally showing signs of life, St. John’s continues to make noise in the offseason, and the Giants now know exactly how difficult their road back to relevance will be.
Mets Finally Catch Fire
It’s about time.
After weeks of inconsistent baseball and an offense that often looked stuck in neutral, the Mets are finally putting together a legitimate stretch of winning baseball. Monday’s call-up of rookie A.J. Ewing may end up being a turning point for the club. The young spark plug delivered an electric debut, ripping a triple and drawing two walks while immediately injecting energy into the lineup.
Fellow rookie Carson Benge has also helped breathe life into the offense, and suddenly the Mets are beginning to resemble the team fans expected to see all season. Perhaps most encouraging is that this recent surge has come without Francisco Lindor in the lineup. Instead of folding, the Mets have responded with sharper at-bats, better situational hitting, and a noticeably more confident approach.
No one is planning the parade route yet, but at least Mets fans finally have something positive to watch.
St. John’s Keeps Building
The offseason never really stops in college basketball anymore, especially in the NIL and transfer portal era, and St. John’s continues to stay aggressive.
The latest addition for the Red Storm is international wing Babacar Sane, a talented prospect expected to bring professional-level experience and athleticism to Queens. Sane joins an offseason haul that already includes Quinn Ellis, while standout guard Ian Jackson is reportedly staying put.
Still, the biggest storyline surrounding Rick Pitino’s program involves Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic. The sharpshooting forward is currently deciding whether to remain in the NBA Draft or return to college basketball. According to college basketball insider Jeff Goodman, Momcilovic is expected to withdraw from the draft and choose between Louisville and St. John’s.
Landing a player of his caliber would be a massive statement for the Johnnies and could instantly elevate expectations heading into next season.
Giants Schedule Brings Immediate Challenge

It’s never too early to talk football in New York.
The Giants will once again open the season under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football against the rival Dallas Cowboys. The matchup also signals the beginning of a new era featuring head coach John Harbaugh and rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Giants fans have seen plenty of season-opening heartbreak against Dallas over the years, but the organization hopes this version of Big Blue can finally change the script.
Things won’t get easier after Week 1, either. The Giants then head west to face the Los Angeles Rams, meaning the revamped roster will be tested immediately against two playoff-caliber opponents.
Safe to say, the new-look Giants will be tested early..
