SPANISH HARLEM – For Yankees fans, this week has a whirlwind of emotions. They clinched the top Wild Card spot in the American League but also lost Aaron Judge for possibility all of the Playoffs. Whatever feelings fans had about making it to the World Series is shattered to pieces.
There is no way this version of the Yankees can make a sustainable run in the Playoffs. This offense is built around Judge and without him has shown this team has trouble generating runs. I would love to be wrong and see this team get hot and make it to the World Series but in my opinion, they won’t go far. They could now lose against the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card series, which would make this a disaster of a season.
I wrote two weeks ago that Judge should be the full-time DH because I worried about this exact thing. You have a Superstar hitter that hasn’t played in 90 days and expect his body to hold up. The most important thing was to get Judge ready for the playoffs and because they wanted to play him in right field, now we a major hole in the lineup. I can’t think how pissed off I am right now.
Sure, Judge wants to play the outfield, but you have to save him from himself, and they certainly didn’t do that. Whether it’s Boone or Cashman, someone made the wrong call on Judge and now the season and playoff run is probably over. I know pessimistic and sad but it’s only because I really thought with a healthy Judge, they could make a run in the Playoffs.
I would like to end this by sending my condolences to the family and friends of CheesyBruin.
That’s it for now, please come back tomorrow for more great revelations from Jackson Sternberg.
