MLB Free Agency Frenzy

PORT JEFF, NY – Greetings. I think there’s only one appropriate way to start this article. LFGM!!!!!

More On Mets Getting Soto

While many of us Mets fans spent much of the 2024 season dreaming of then Mets luring Juan Soto away from the Yankees, I’m not sure how many of us truly believed this day would come.  Year after year under the frugal ownership of the Wilpons, Mets fans sat on the sidelines and watched as other major market teams like the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers spend whatever it took to win a championship. Now under the ownership of the richest man in baseball, Steve Cohen, anything is possible. The signing of Soto is perhaps the biggest move this organization has ever made. Fresh off a NLCS appearance I’d be stunned if Cohen is done. IMHO I think the focus should turn to bringing back Pete Alonso and getting another top of the line starter such as Luis Castillo from the Mariners. Make it happen Uncle Steve!

Kyle Tucker to Cubs

In a rather shocking twist this offseason, the Astros decided to trade Kyle Tucker to the Cubs. It’s not surprising in the sense that it became clear they weren’t going to resign Tucker who is set to be a FA after this season. I think most are shocked at how quickly it came together. For the Cubs they’re getting a five tool player who immediately makes them a formidable threat in the NL and the favorite to win the Central. For the Astros they get one of the Cubs’ premier prospects 3B Cam Smith. They also got Issac Parades and Hayden Wesneski, both of whom should thrive in Houston –  who always seems to get the most out of there guys.

Yankees Moves and Outlook

Jacob Sternberg

It didn’t take long for the Yankees to strike after losing Juan Soto. They’ve already acquired Allstar closer Devin Williams from the Brewers and signed Max Fried to an 8 year deal. Recent reports suggest that the Yankees are also talking to the Cubs about Cody Bellinger who would be an ideal fit with the short porch in Yankee Stadium and would fill the while they have at 1B. In addition to Bellinger the Yankees have also been linked to Alex Bregman and Christian Walker. The Fried deal feels a bit reactionary, he’s 31 years old and has struggled with injuries throughout his career. The Soto loss is obviously devastating but it appears the Yankees will look to fill that hole all over the diamond. In what’s become a relatively weak American League, the Yankees are probably still considered the favorites to return to the World Series despite the loss of Soto.
