MMA vs, Gay, Bisexual,Transgender Throwdown

mma_ufc157_02NEW YORK, NY – Welcome to the MTM Octagon of Sports Comedy (sponsored by Khan’s Franks) with yours truly off the MTM Writer’s Bench and into the fray. So why am I ready to fight about the whole MMA/Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT thing.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am the head coach for NYC’s only gay-friendly men’s rugby team; the Gotham Knights. Rugby is far from homophobic but clubs like Gotham exist to allow people that are gay a chance to play rugby and not feel awkward about it as one would on a predominately straight team. This info is necessary so my argument doesn’t seem anti-LBGT.

The first news is that UFC has it first openly gay fighter (a woman of course, no guy is gonna come out), Liz Camouhce. Liz is a good fighter not great but has been in a few title bouts. There has been nothing but widespread support. Her fan club, the Lizbos (I mean really, ladies!!) are trying to petition to get on Ellen. Full credit to her and them, we wish them luck. MtM has been trying to get on TV for years!!

The second and more divisive piece of news is Fallon Fox, a post-op, transexual fighter. Fox is a titleholder and undefeated, however since coming out in March. There have been some serious blows thrown her way. Matt Mitrione and HOT fighter Rowdy Ronda Rousey have been outspoken about how Fox has an unfair advantage. Mitrione made his sound very un-pc and was labeled “Transaphobic” (new word you kids) and suspended by UFC. Russey has been more PC and has argued that regardless of the sex change Fox has the build, muscle power and bone density of a man. A permanent unfair advantage.

Fallon Fox
It’s a man, baby!!!

I agree with Rousey. Fox is just being greedy. It is great that you are who you always wanted or thought you should be. However, there limits on how far your freedom extends and starts infringing on others. Find another sport or fight men in your weight class. It can be non-contact. Try soccer, basketball or be a trainer. It doesn’t matter, what matters is that you are not picking and choosing to use an advantage.

Hey, this might be a sensitive subject, but we don’t pull punches onĀ  MTM. Hit me up here or on Twitter @junoirblaber with your thoughts…

Cheesy Bruin, tomorrow.
