HOLBROOK, NY – As we sit here waiting for the Super Bowl to start, let’s Jump into today’s topics: Lions Blow It, Ravens Disappoint, MLB Hot Stove.
Lions Blow It
The Detroit Lions had all the momentum in the world entering the third quarter of the NFC Championship game against the favored San Francisco 49ers but shot themselves in the foot on more than one occasion on Sunday, on a fourth down WR Josh Reynolds dropped a pass -that would have been a first down – and would have extended another Detroit first down. Some people questioned Dan Campbell’s decision-making. Although those people have a point, I do not think that is what cost the lions the game. Jahmyr Gibbs had a game-changing fumble and the dropped interception was also out of Campbell’s control.
Ravens Disappoint
This felt like a massive blown opportunity for Baltimore’s Super Bowl window. The rival Cincinnati Bengals were without star QB Joe Burrow, among other AFC threats. The Jets were without Aaron Rodgers. The Browns missed RB Nick Chubb and Deshaun Watson. Who knows if the ravens will ever have this clear of a path to the Big Game in the future. The Ravens may end up being the third best team in their own division next season not mentioning a massive cap hit from Lamar Jackson.
MLB Hot Stove
It’s been a while… there have been some under the radar savvy moves in the past few weeks, such as the Blue Jays snagging Justin Turner off the market, and the Mariners acquiring Jorge Polanco from the Twins. The Mets, who have been dumpster-diving all offseason, resigned Adam Ottavino. This may be a first, but I think this is a nice move from Stearns. Ottavino was with NY the past two seasons and has posted a sub 3.50 ERA in both of those seasons. Getting Edwin Diaz back should help middle relievers like Brooks Raley & Ottavino. Diaz should give the Mets at least ten more wins, whether that jump is from 66 to 76 or 77 to 87 remains to be seen. This is only one mans opinion, but, if the Mets can get one more bat (Jorge Soler or JD Martinez) the Amazins would have very formidable 3-4-5 with Lindor, Alonso and the aforementioned Martinez or Soler, not to mention budding superstar Francisco Alvarez. Bounce-back candidates are Jeff McNeil and cornerstone CF Brandon Nimmo. The wild card for this club would be Starling Marte. If the metros can get the 2022 version of Marte back in the fold, they would have a top tier lineup with a very good back-end Bullpen.
We have some Breaking News here at MTM, the Baltimore Orioles have landed star pitcher Corbin Burnes from Milwaukee, This now cements the O’s as favorites in the daunting AL East.
