Mets, Yankees class of the league? and U.S. Open reaction

Port Jefferson NY- Greetings, let’s hop right into today’s topics. Mets, Yankees class of the league? and U.S. Open reaction

Mets

Following their series win in Texas, the Grimace Mets have split the first two at Wrigley against the Cubs. Tylor Megill had his worst start of the season which has I’m sure all wondering where Christian Scott is at the moment. At 36-39 the Mets sit two games out of the final wildcard spot in the truly pathetic National League that seemingly gets worse by the minute. Currently, there are nine teams within three games of each other and only the Cardinals and Padres are above .500 albeit by a single game. The Mets are about as good as each team they’re fighting against which you can interpret however you’d like. While they do have a fairly good shot of making the playoffs I do think it’s important to be realistic about this team, they’re extremely inconsistent and I still think moving some players at the deadline who won’t be back next year is the right move.

Yankees class of the league?

Though they’ve slowed down a little over their last ten games or so, as a Mets fan it’s still painful to see the upside this team possesses. Aaron Judge has returned to 2022 form, leading baseball with 28 HR, Juan Soto is maybe the best hitter in baseball and Gerrit Cole returned this past week to a rotation that’s been the best in the league. Gil and Rodon did struggle in their most recent outings, however I’m still very bullish on them for the remainder of the season. Marcus Stroman continued his excellence against Atlanta firing six solid innings. As far as the trade deadline goes for the Yankees, I think another bat, specifically a first baseman and a lockdown reliever would really solidify this team as one of the best in baseball.

Jacob Sternberg

U.S. Open reaction

Bryson DeChambeau claimed his second U.S. Open title at Pinehurst, winning at -6 over Rory McIlroy at -5. This was truly an incredible tournament to watch, the course played extremely difficult and came down to the 72nd hole for Bryson to close it out. The larger story is of course the meltdown from Rory McIlory. Rory at one point reached -8 and held a two shot lead over DeChambeau and subsequently missed two putts inside four feet to cost him the championship. I was really pulling for Rory to win his first major in over a decade. You have to just feel gutted for him. It was a heartbreaking defeat as you’ll ever see in golf.
