MLB Game 1 Reactions

Mets Take Game 1

WOW! What an incredible week of baseball for the New York Mets. To start the week the Mets won one of the most intense games I’ve ever watched in Atlanta in the first game of the double header to clinch a playoff spot. They then split the first two WC games with Milwaukee, and in game three after looking lifeless for 8 innings plus, Pete Alonso hit the biggest HR of his career to send the Mets to the NLDS. Then today, the Mets were shutdown by Zach Wheeler for seven innings and then exploded for 5 runs in the eighth immediately following Wheeler’s departure. The only word to describe what it’s been like to watch this team this past week and frankly all year is simply unbelievable.

This is by far the most fun team I’ve ever watched. The timely outs from every member of this staff, the timely hits from up and down this lineup has been like nothing I’ve ever seen from a Mets team. I’m not ready to send the Mets to the NLCS just yet, the Phillies are an excellent team and I expect them to punch back. I must say, I don’t think there has ever been a Mets team that better exemplifies the mantra Ya Gotta Believe.

Yankees Take Game 1

The Yankees squeaked by the Royals to take game 1 of the ALDS. Gerrit Cole didn’t look very good, but was bailed out by the bullpen firing four scoreless innings. After the Astros were upset by the Tigers in the Wild Card round, the Yanks are now heavy favorites to win the American League and go to their first World Series since 2009.  The Yankees are far and away the best team left in the AL. It’s all come together perfectly for the Bombers. The Tigers and Royals are solid scrappy teams but are very flawed offensively, and the Guardians lack depth throughout their lineup & rotation to matchup with the Yankees. Anything short of an AL pennant will be a massive disappoint for this team.
