Giants Sign Winston, Mets and Yankees Preview

Port Jeff NY. Greetings, Opening Day is right around the corner, (the real one at least). And we’ll skip over the St. John’s implosion and act like it didn’t happen… Let’s talk some ball! Giants Sign Winston, Mets and Yankees PreviewGiants Sign Winston

Giants Sign Winston

The Giants signed Jameis Winston to a two year 8 million dollar contract. The size of this contract suggests that the Giants will add another QB, however. I like this move. Winston is an average QB who makes tons of mistakes but is very capable of getting the ball to his playmakers. I think the Giants are out of the Aaron Rodgers “sweepstakes” so that leaves Russell Wilson or drafting a QB. I’d much prefer the latter. I’d personally love to see Winston start 17 games, and try to break records with Malik Nabers.

Mets and Yankees Preview

Mets

Coming off the best offseason this franchise has ever had, expectation are as high as ever. This lineup should be among the best in baseball. The X-factor of this lineup is Pete Alonso. Coming off a somewhat down year in 2024 and not receiving the contract he hoped, Alonso will be incredibly motivated heading into the 2025 season. I think Alonso is destined for a monster year hitting behind Juan Soto. If I’m correct with my prediction, this offense will be the best in the league. As for the pitching, I do have some concerns. Sean Manaea will begin the year on the IL, however he’s not expected to miss too much time. I’m very curious as to how Clay Holmes adjusts to his first year as a starter. In Spring Training, Holmes has been lights out. However I don’t put much stock into that. Though, If Holmes is even half as dominant as he was this spring it’ll be a massive boost for this rotation. Behind Manaea and Holmes is Kodai Senga and David Peterson. If Peterson is as good as he was all of 2024 and if Senga can stay healthy this team should win 95 plus games.

Jacob Sternberg

Yankees

It’s been a disastrous spring training for the Bronx Bombers. Gerrit Cole is lost for the season due to Tommy John Surgery, reigning AL ROY Luis Gil is expected to miss multiple months, and Giancarlo Stanton faces the same faith. Despite the slew of injuries, the Yankees are still setup to be one of the best teams in a very weak American League. The key to unlocking this teams success is Cody Bellinger and Jason Dominguez, Bellinger I believe should have a massive year and hit tons of HRs with the short porch at Yankee Stadium, it’s Dominguez who’s the real question mark. Once a huge prospect, Dominguez hasn’t been able to stay healthy and showcase his full talent. He’s still just 22-years-old, and if he’s able to hit his ceiling it will add depth behind Aaron Judge to this lineup it hasn’t had in recent years. Despite the injuries, I still think the Yankees win 95+ games and win the AL East.
