Johnnies bounce back, March Madness!

PORT JEFF, Happy March to all of those who celebrate; we have March Madness in the air. Let’s talk about it. St. John’s bouncing back

St. John’s bounces back after an embarrassing loss in Hartford, Connecticut, against UConn. Head coach Rick Pitino called this game on Saturday the most important since he’s been at St. John’s. The Johnnies sure acted like it; as soon as the game tipped off, you could tell there was a different type of intensity on offense, especially on defense. The Red Storm jumped out to a 20-10 lead and then went on a 25-to-10 run, which saw the lead balloon to 30 by halftime. This was the exact response of coaches, players, and fans. Anyone wanted to see after an embarrassing performance against Connecticut? After the Villanova game, St. John’s celebrated senior day on Tuesday against Georgetown. In one of college basketball’s oldest and most celebrated rivalries, the Red Storm celebrated one of their most impactful players in recent memory as Zuby Ejiofor was honored among others on senior day. The game was not as smooth as expected under Rick Pitino and his cohort, but grinding out a win against the biggest East rival is never a bad thing. This sets up a matchup at Seton Hall this Friday with a chance to at least collect a share of the Big East regular season for this second time in as many seasons; this would also clinch a number one seed in the Big East tournament.

March madness. It’s truly an amazing time of year with conference tournaments already starting, and that feeling of excitement in the air—the so-called “bubble” is tightening up with each game, and seeing some surprises throughout the country as teams like Cincinnati, TCU, and Ohio State have started to make a legit claim to be a part of the madness this season, there is still so much basketball left to be played with the aforementioned conference tournaments for larger conferences beginning next week; there will likely be some bid stealers out of conferences like the Mountain West and even the A-10. Buckle up!
