MAIN STREET, USA – Besides being George Steinbrenner’s birthday, July fourth just happens to be Independence Day. Being of Irish, German, and English descent makes me your typical, run-of-the-mill Anglo-Saxon Mutt (hey another use for that word!) but make no mistake; I don’t give a rat’s tail about St. Patrick’s Day, The Fatherland, or that inbred group of dysfunctional knuckleheads known as the British Royal Family. I’m an American all the way. We may have a ton of problems in this country, but I still don’t see anyone doing it better than us. The natural beauty of our land, spirit of our people, and democratic system of government sets us apart from every nation on Earth. Americans invented the automobile, cured Polio, and put twelve men on the Moon. Our country has produced the likes of Teddy Roosevelt, Amelia Earhart, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Jim Lovell, Lewis and Clark, and countless other movers and shakers. We’ve also produced my two favorite living Americans; Yogi Berra and Mel Brooks! I hope everyone had a safe and happy Fourth of July, filled with family, fun, and of course baseball, and I hope we all understand that despite our differences we are still the luckiest people in the World.
