HOLBROOK, NY – Let’s skip the introduction stuff, let’s talk about the important stuff: Giants QB Drama, Dodgers and Ohtani, Paging The Mets
Giants QB Drama
On Monday night Tommy Devito led the Giants to their third straight win after a thrilling come from behind win against the Packers. The bright spots for the Jints continued to shine on Monday night, along with Devito’s magic. Second-year wideout Wandale Robinson had his best game as a pro, logging over 100 yards from scrimmage. That included the biggest catch and run of the game – to set up the game winning FG. Along with Robinson, Deonte Banks, Kayvon Thibodeaux and the best DT in football –Dexter Lawrence– sparked some much-needed optimism in an otherwise lost season for the G-Men.
More NFL Injuries
This season is starting to feel a bit cursed. Add star QB Justin Herbert to the long list of season ending injuries to guys like Arron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson and Daniel Jones. The amount of backup QBs that have had to step in this season is unprecedented. For as Long as I have been watching football, I cannot remember the last time there were this many season-altering and season-ending injuries to the sport’s most important position. Some teams have been better equipped to handle these injuries, but the quality has taken a hit.
Paging the Mets
The Yankees get Soto. The Dodgers get Ohtani. The Mets Get Joey Wendle. Wait. What?! Time is ticking for [David] Stearns & Co. I have been trying to convince myself that Stearns knows what he’s doing, But does he? One of the Mets top prospects – Ronny Mauricio – tore his ACL in winter ball this week. This should come as a shock to no one, but the Mets need to sign a big league third baseman. A name that instantly comes to mind is former Met Justin Turner… or perhaps a trade for Alex Bregman, who has been reportedly on the trading block. My point being that they need to show fans they have a pulse! Trayce Thompson and Jorge Lopez would have been exciting additions in 2017, yet with an owner who has promised sustained success, we have had one winning season since he has taken over.
FINAL NOTE: As I was finishing today’s column, I saw that Tyler Glasnow has been traded from the Rays to the aforementioned Dodgers.
Your move Mets.
