ATLANTA, GA – Happy Saturday Mets Fans! Going beyond a typical shout out to the loyal fan base here on MTM, I’ll happily start off with the the NY Met’s 11th inning 4-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. Sure they are 14.5 games behind my beloved Braves, but Eric Young Jr. still gave us all a little tingle in the back with his 2 run HR to halt the Royal’s 9 game winning streak. Hopefully it won’t cost David Wright too many games for his own contribution of a homer and pulled hamstring. Add that to Bobby Parnell’s neck issues and Josh Edgin landing on the DL and suddenly that win was more Pyrrhic than you Flushing fans would like.
Speaking of winning streaks, the Atlanta Braves won their 8th straight with a 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies Friday night. Talk about giving someone something to smile about Chris Johnson’s 2 run HR did that and more in the fifth inning. Am I just being partial to my personal favorites? No, don’t think so. They have the league-leading 11.5 games over their nearest contender for the NL East. I need only mention their name to gain some street cred here…
Speaking of street cred… let’s go over to the NFL Hall of Fame ceremony today, which will celebrate the induction of NFL Coach Bill Parcells into the famed cadre of NFL greats. And there will be many successful players who blossomed under Bill on hand. These Parcells Guys include Phil Simms, Vinny Testaverde, Curtis Martin and many more A-listers who learned and grew under the expert tutelage of The Big Tuna. Bill single handedly helped rebuild franchises such as the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys. Congratulations and well done, Coach.
Lastly, we have our new Hero & Villain of the Week!
Villain of the Week: Nike
For being the corporate whore of the world and dumping Ryan Braun from sponsorship. You will remember that Nike similarly dropped Michael Vick and “almost” nicked Tiger for his sexcapades. Does Nike really care about integrity or selling more sneakers? You decide folks.
Hero of the Week: Sarah Thomas
For being the first female NFL official ever! She’s training now with the New Orleans Saints but I expect her to be officiating NFL games this season. Congrats Sarah and we look forward to many of those friendly “ass-slaps.”
That’s all for Preacher’s Row for now, be safe, be kind, and stay tuned for Cheesy Bruin manana!
