HOLBROOK, NY- Greetings… here’s today’s menu: St. John’s Offseason Update, NFL Draft Reaction.
St. John’s offseason updates. As many of you know, I am a diehard Johnnies’ fan. College sports has pretty much become free agency, with NIL being at the forefront. The Red-Storm are looking to replenish, and they are off to a good start. In the past two days, Rick Pitino has landed commitments from Arron Scott of North Texas, and Vincent Iwuchukwu of USC. Scott is a premiere defender and should most likely start for the Red Storm at small forward. Iwuchukwu is a former top 25 recruit, and has a ton of upside. With three years remaining of eligibility, we should see some serious growth from the former Trojan. Standout Guard Kadary Richmond from Seton Hall has entered the transfer portal and has immediately been linked to the red storm. With the loss of senior guard Daniss Jenkins, Richmond would be more than a suitable replacement.
Giants Draft Reaction
After months of rumors about who the Giants should select with the number six pick, The G-Men have chosen WR Malik Nabers out of LSU. Since the Giants drafted Daniel Jones in 2019, they have not given him a true number one receiver. Jones simply hasn’t had a true alpha to go up and bail him out in a pinch. If the Giants want a QB, they can wait until next year. They continue to build the best roster that they can. With the addition of Brian Burns earlier in the offseason, they finally seem to have a core to build around. Burns and Nabers join Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Andrew Thomas as a nucleus that Giants fans can look to and hope to build around.
NFL Draft Reactions.
The Falcons did WHAT? After signing QB Kirk Cousins to a massive contract this offseason, Atlanta possessing one of the most talented offenses in football, seemed poised to be all in for the upcoming season. Yet for some unknown reason Falcons GM Terry Fontenot decided to select Michael Penix – QB from Washington. This pick makes zero sense to me. The Falcons are financially tied to Kirk Cousins for the next four years and what makes this pick even more bizarre is that Michael Pinex wasn’t a very highly sought after prospect. I don’t think Penix’s game will transfer well into the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings traded up with the Jets and grabbed Michigan QB JJ Mccarthy. I am not the biggest fan of McCarthy, but, if anyone can get the most out of a QB, it’s Kevin O’Connell. The Jets drafted Tackle Olu Fashanu (say that five times fast) from Penn State, and in doing so gave Aaron Rodgers some much needed protection.
