HOLBROOK, NY – Aside from the Mets, the NYC sports’ vibe is outstanding! Let’s get into it. Here’s what with: Knicks Look To Close Out Indy, Rangers Survive, Time for the Mets To Start Over?
Rangers Survive
Many Rangers’ fans were holding their breath, down 3-1 in Carolina, in danger of blowing a 3-0 lead. This Rangers team has done what they had been doing all season, erasing early deficits and someway, somehow, winning, The Rags, Behind a legendary performance from Chris Kreider, the Rangers won and will play the winner of Boston-Florida in the ECF.
Knicks Look To Close Out Indy
This has been a dream season for many Knicks fans. This team has already surpassed many of our expectations by just getting to this point. The Knicks have not made the ECF since 2000, led by Jalen Brunson i think Knicks fans deserve to dream big enough for a championship, when you have a Star like Brunson I don’t think anything is out of the question, even with the Celtics looming in the next round, nothing should surprise us, with the heart of this group and the culture that has been set it would not surprise me anymore.
Time for the Mets To Start Over?
I’ve saved the best for last here today. The Mets stink. Let’s explore why:
-Jeff McNeil, a previous batting champion, has become an automatic out.
-Pete Alonso goes missing for extended periods.
-Starling Marte’s best years are behind him.
-Brett Baty keeps hitting weak ground balls.
How should the Mets handle this situations?
I think the Mets need to make some tough decisions. Aside from Nimmo, Alvarez, Lindor, and Senga, no one should be off-limits. Just last year, the Mets could acquire some young talent in numerous trades during the deadline. This year is looking like the same thing, with some expiring contracts like JD Martinez, Luis Severino, and relievers that always net a pretty good haul. The Mets have a chance to replenish the farm system and regroup for the next few years.
Having said all of that, what kind of plan does David Stearns have? Will he blindly throw money at free agents and hope to contend?
Since the last series against the Braves in 2022, this organization has not been the same. At a time, it had looked like the Mets we knew were dead and gone, since that one series in Atlanta where everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong, Edwin Diaz tore his knee in the WBC, Jeff McNeil & Pete Alonso have regressed, and the once promising starting pitching depth (Megill, Peterson.) have both forgotten how to pitch.
The one thing that owner Steve Cohen has said is that he wants sustained success. Mmaybe I’m being a bit pessimistic but, I do not see where this success will come from. The trades of Verlander & Scherzer are still TBD. Christian Scott looks legit, but that’s just one small piece to the puzzle.
