Mets Right Back In It
What a week it has been for the New York Mets! Just a week ago I was on here preaching a false positivity (perhaps) about the Metros. BUT since then they rattled off 7 wins in a row before falling to the Rangers on Wednesday. This hot streak has come at a crucial point as the MLB Trade Deadline is not too far away. This Magical Mets (tm) week has put the Amazins just one game out of a playoff spot, and given us fans a reason to tune in each night. If the Metsies continue their winning ways they will undoubtedly try and add some pieces at the deadline. It won’t be the big names like Luis Robert or Mason Miller, but a veteran pitcher like Tyler Anderson to go along with the hopeful return of ace Kodai Senga, would give the Mets a legit chance to make the postseason.
Knicks Draft Needs
The Knicks had a magical season and a fantastic postseason run this year, but wore down due to many injuries. The Knickerbockers are pretty set with their rotation going into next season (unless they are unable to resign OG Anunoby). This draft is very important for the Knicks for two reasons:
-Drafting and developing players is key to the organization’s long term success, and
-More importantly, unless you are drafting in the lottery, draft picks do not cost as much. Thus, the brass will have the ability to take on more salary, either with a big trade or a FA singing.
Orioles vs Yankees Reactions
It was quite the series in the Bronx this week. Game one saw the Bronx bombers win 4-2 behind Nestor Cortes. The big story out of this game however, was Aaron Judge getting hit on the hand by an Oriole pitch. Judge, thankfully is okay and afterward said he was “pissed,” thus leading to some Orioles being beaned in retaliation. Star SS Gunnar Henderson got plunked with a fastball that looked pretty intentional to me. O’s announcer Kevin Brown was furious, citing that it was “a shame” to do that. Baltimore won the game 7-6 in a thriller that most of us could not even watch! (thanks Prime). The rubber game in the Bronx saw the O’s jump out to a 7-0 lead over rookie sensation Luis Gil, and put the game away before some seats were taken. This series showed a few things:
-As great as the Yankees are, I think Baltimore is THAT much better.
–Gerrit Cole returned and did not look like himself, (one start, yes I know)
-the Yankees did not face ace Corbin Burnes or Grayson Rodriguez.
-Baltimore will only get better this season, seeing as how they have lost Kyle Bradish and John Means.
Finally, Baltimore will surely add another arm or two as well as promotions for their top hitting prospects Connor Norby and Heston Kjerstad.
RIP to the great Willie Mays.
