PORT JEFF, NY- Greeting’s. Let’s hop right into today’s topics: Same Old Mets? Yankees Get Jazz, MLB Trade Deadline
Same Old Mets?
Everything about the way the Mets have played the last two months has suggested that maybe things were different, maybe this was the year they put all of the tragic s*** aside that we’ve put up with for so many years and made a serious run. As I’m sure you’ve all heard, Kodai Senga’s season is over after throwing five innings in 2024. This is obviously a devastating blow, however things aren’t as grim as I may have made them seem. Since the end of May this has been one of the best teams in baseball and they’ve done all of that without Kodai Senga. Jeff McNeil has finally come alive, Francisco Lindor is a legitimate MVP candidate, and I’d expect the front office to make several moves to address the rotation as well as the bullpen. From everything we’ve seen from this team there’s no reason to believe they can’t make a serious postseason run.
Mets Trades
The Mets acquired RP Ryne Stanek from the Mariners. Stanek has been a very solid reliever for many years and has plenty of playoff experience, pitching for the Astros for three years. This is a very good start to what is hopefully at least one more arm added to this bullpen.
As of writing this late Saturday night, the Mets acquired Jesse Winker from the Nationals. Winker has a long history of tormenting the Mets and should immediately slide right into the middle of this lineup.
Yankees Get Jazz
The Yankees acquired 2B/OF Jazz Chisholm from the Marlins in exchange for some prospects. Chisholm is a very talented player who at times has struggled with his temper. Chisholm should slide right into the leadoff spot and is an excellent addition to what’s been a bad lineup outside of Judge and Soto. This can’t be the only offensive addition the Yankees make, they’re still in need of several bats to solidify this lineup that’s been shockingly bad.
Other Notable Moves
Angry Ward’s Mariners acquired Randy Arozarena from the Rays. This is an excellent move for Seattle as they try to beef up what’s been one of the worst lineups in baseball. Arozarena has had a down year but has heated up as of late and is under club control for the next few years.
The Rays continued their fire sale, trading Zack Eflin to the Orioles. Another solid move from the O’s as they look to shore-up one of their only weak spots, in the rotation.
The Phillies acquired reliever Carlos Estevez from the Angels. Philadelphia has one of the best teams in baseball, yet currently being held back by the lack of a dominant reliever. Estevez is a nice get but adding an additional arm or two is likely crucial for the Phills to make a serious World Series push.
Some key names who could be moved are Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, who I’d be surprised to see traded, considering he’s under club control for several years. Teammate Jack Flahrety is almost certain to be dealt, as he’s a Free Agent at the end of the year.
The last name I’ll mention is Brent Rooker, who’s had a monster season for the A’s with a .954 OPS. If I were Brian Cashman, I’d be calling Oakland to get this guy to the Bronx asap.
