PORT JEFF, NY – We have lots of news to talk about. Here’s what will get us going: Mariners Dismiss Servais, What Giants Should Do with Daniel Jones, Mets Tough Road-Trip

Mariners Dismiss Servais

It was announced Thursday that the Seattle Mariners fired Scott Servais after an abysmal stretch that saw the M’s go 13-22. They currently sit five games back of the first place Astros. This is a tough call for Jerry Dipto and co as the M’s have some of the best pitching in all baseball, but an offense that mirrors the 2015 Mets (pre Cespedes). Even with trade deadline acquisitions such as Randy Arozarena and Justin Turner, as well as the emergence of Victor Robles, and the return of J-Rod, things just haven’t clicked. The Mariners have always seemed to struggle to score runs, but perhaps the most alarming thing about this group is the strikeouts, they are on pace to break the all-time strikeout record for a team in the modern era, so what do they do in the offseason? Go after Soto? Perhaps flipping one of the bright young pitchers, Woo or Miller, for an impact bat, we can’t just forget about this season. Through all of this, the Mariners are 64-64 trailing the Astros by 5 games for first place. As a Mets fan, I’ve seen some blown division leads in my time and it would certainly not shock me if a new voice gives the M’s a jolt and at least a chance to make another run.

What Giants Should Do with Daniel Jones

It was quite the return to action for DJ on Saturday, throwing not one, but two interceptions in a preseason game in Houston. It’s hard to make such a big deal out of a game that doesn’t mean anything, but with how the Giants front office approached the offseason and more specifically the draft, it would not have hurt Jones to come out ripping the ball and making a first impression. This raises the question of what should the Giants do? Veteran QB Drew Lock looked equally as bad if not worse than Jones did. Tommy Devito is the only other QB on the current roster and does not have Saquon Barkley next to him this season. It’s hard to sell a rebuild or a “retool” in New York. For any of the major sports teams. In 2022 it looked as if the Giants would be the laughingstock of the year and wound up winning a playoff game, so who really knows what to expect, but the Giants need to finally pick a direction this year to build towards the future.

Mets Tough Road-Trip

Jackson Sternberg

The Mets’ tough road trip. To say it’s been a rollercoaster season for the boys in orange and blue would be an understatement. Beginning play, the Mets are just 2 games back of the Braves for the third and final wild card spot, while also trailing the D-Backs and Padres by 5 games. The road trip will start in San Diego for a massive 4 game series which would not only cut into the lead but would give the Mets the tiebreaker in the season series. The next series on tap is against the Diamondbacks, who the Mets also played earlier in the season and split the series. A series win against them would do the trick as well. No matter your expectations this season of the Mets, they have hung in there and given us a chance to watch every night. It’s putting up or shut up time for the Mets, a massive west-coast swing should determine if we see postseason baseball in Queens. LFGM!!
