MLB’s Witch-Hunt, Mets Resilient Trip, College Football’s Back!

PORT JEFF, NY – It’s been a minute; let’s talk sports! Here’s what we got: MLB’s Witch-Hunt, Mets Resilient Trip, College Football’s Back!

MLB’s Witch-Hunt

For those of you who remembered the Edwin Diaz ‘sticky stuff’ situation, there was much made of Vic Carapezza’s crew in regard to not letting Edwin wash his hands off after the crew suspected he was using an illegal foreign substance. The reason I brought this up all this time later is because it happened again, with the same crew, only this time the Mets were not involved. The guilty party was Cubs ace Justin Steele, who was allowed by Carapezza to wash his hands off in between innings. This has drawn my attention because of the simple fact that the only pitchers who have seemed to be getting ejected are Mets! In April 2023, Max Scherzer was thrown out of a game in LA for having hands “too sticky to let slide.” Later that season, Drew Smith was thrown out of a game for the same thing, so by just putting the pieces together it seems as if MLB has some sort of personal vendetta against the Mets. We’ve even seen Yankees pitchers have the chance to wash their hands and receive any sort of discipline. Perhaps I’m grasping at straws here, but you could certainly make a case.

Mets Resilient Trip

The Mets secured a series win over the D-Backs on Thursday with a massive outing from David Peterson, who has arguably been the Mets most consistent SP of the season. The Mets needed length from DP yesterday because Dedniel Nunez was placed on the IL with forearm tightness. This is a massive blow to a bullpen that has scuffled in the past few weeks. The true story of this game, however, was the bounce back performance from Edwin Diaz, who blew the game the night before. All in all, the Mets took a series from the O’s, split with the Padres, and won the series in Arizona. This team can hang with the best teams in baseball. If the Mets want a shot to sneak into the last spot in the postseason, they must sweep the lowly White Sox. Along with a little help from our friends in Philadelphia (it killed me to type that). LFGM!!

College Football’s Back!

I know I’m a week late, but college football is back and in full swing with some intriguing matchups and storylines for the upcoming season. Week 1 features a few mammoth top 25 clashes, including Georgia vs. Clemson and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame vs. the Aggies of A&M. Not to mention some local schools back in action: Rutgers, Buffalo, and Syracuse. The only certainty for this upcoming season is the uncertainty! It should be a fun season, and I look forward to breaking it down each week.
