NIAGARA FALLS, NY Happy Monday! It is the first Monday of August and a full week of theĀ  2024 Olympics has been completed. No mucking around, here is today’s piece. It will be about the two things with the second divided in two. Here’s today’s menu: Mets Update, Olympic Thoughts

Mets Update

The Mets have to stop losing to bad teams. If losing to the Marlins isn’t bad enough, they lost the series to the Angels. They lost Saturday, 5-4 and Sunday, 3-2. I know the Mets have the best record in baseball since the start of June, and that is great and the only reason they are in a Wild Card spot. But you can’t be a serious threat and losing to teams that bad. I guess playoffs are about raising your level so it may not be a bad thing but any hope of catching Braves and even the Phillies seems to be disappearing. But maybe the Mets get hot again, who knows. I do know that none of these deadline deals actually seem to be pushing the Mets forward, but maybe they will get hot.

Olympic Boxing Scandal

This is episode was so disgusting to me. First, I have to say the Italian Boxer that started this scandal with her words, though she later apologized, was a very bad boxer. Her defense was bad, her footwork was poor and she didn’t move or block well. Just totally bad fundamentals. Second, Algeria is not a bastion of homosexual or transexual tolerance, so why would they send a transgender boxer. Imane Khelif is a woman! She may have higher testosterone level than most women but most Olympic athletes – like Michael Phelps– are freaks of nature. Khelif, by all the rules of the Olympics and gender and anything, else is a woman with lots of strength and she is a good boxer. She has lost to other women, too! It is amazing how fast the lie traveled and was even printed by the Boston Globe, before the truth eventually got out and retractions were issued by those with decency. Of course some people that want this to be an excuse to hate trans-people never apologized. My FB feed of people who were in a tizzy when the lie came out seemed to not correct themselves or apologize when the truth came out.

Because all you need for Athletics, aka Track and Field – is your body and a track, it allows so many nations to compete that normally wouldn’t. Jamaica medaled in the Shot-put, while a bunch of tiny nations won their first medal. We had St.Lucia win the gold in the Women’s 100, Dominica won the gold in the Triple Jump, and Grenada won a bronze in the Decathlon. The Men’s 100 had a photo finish. And finally we had the French pole vaulter, who will be famous for his pole. If you don’t get it, CLICK THIS.

Thanks for reading and come tomorrow to hear from the Ben Whitney, who will tell why the trade for Jazz Chisolm is a brilliant move and help the Yankees make the World Series.
