PORT JEFF, NY- Greetings- Let’s talk some MLB Free Agency, Hot Stove Stuff.
MLB Free Agency
Things have finally started to heat up this offseason, with many moves made and much more to come.
Blake Snell To The Dodgers
The rich get richer. Snell continued his dominance in 2024 with the Giants and will now join a loaded Dodgers rotation that includes Yamamoto, Glasnow, Ohtani and potentially Clayton Kershaw. Wow
Wily Adames To The Giants.
This was a little surprising, I was certain Adames was destined to be a Dodger. Nonetheless, the Giants get their SS for the next 8 years. I like this move for San Francisco, though they’re in an odd place, as an organization where they’re not quite bad enough to fully rebuild but not good enough to fully contend. However, adding Adames to an already very strong left side of the infield with third basemen Matt Chapman, the Giants are in a solid spot to improve in 2025.
Tyler O’Neil To Baltimore.
Coming off a very strong 2024 season, O’Neil is an excellent fit to an already very solid Orioles lineup. The O’s had a disastrous second half of the 2024 season that ended with them getting swept in the WC round by Detroit. I expect Baltimore to be very active this offseason, and to be very aggressive in their attempt to re-sign Corbin Burnes.
Mets Sign Frankie Montas and Clay Holmes
I love this move for the Mets. Montas had a very underrated 2024 season with two teams, in which he endured a lot of bad luck. Not to mention Montas pitched in two of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in baseball, Milwaukee and Cincinnati. I think Montas can have a career resurrection much like Luis Severino did last year.
In addition to Montas, the Mets also signed Clay Holmes with the intention of making him into a starter. I’m not too sure how this works. Holmes had a very up and down tenure with the Yankees the last few years as a reliever. I’ll trust the David Sterns and the regime that they see something most don’t and they’ll be able to get the most out of Holmes in any capacity.
The Mets are far from done as they’re still very much in the Juan Soto sweepstakes and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them add another big player with or without signing Soto.
