Port Jeff NY- Greetings, let’s talk some ball!
MLB hot stove continues
Yankees get Goldschmidt and Bellinger
The Yankees signed Paul Goldschmidt to a one year deal. Goldschmidt is coming off by far the worst year of his career, though he did have a solid September. Goldschmidt is certainly not the MVP caliber player he was earlier in his career, however he should benefit from playing in a far more hitter friendly environment and he’ll add excellent defense at first base. In addition to Goldschmidt, the Yankees acquired Cody Bellinger from the Cubs. Bellinger is a perfect fit with the short porch in right field and should slide right into the middle of the Yankees lineup as they look to retool following the departure of Juan Soto.
Astors get Walker.
After dealing away superstar Kyle Tucker the Astros made quick work to tighten up their lineup and signed Christian Walker to a three year deal. Walker has been one of the games most underrated players on both offense and defense as a multiple time gold glove winner. This is a dream fit for both sides in my opinion.
Arizona gets Naylor.
I really have no idea why Cleveland does what it does on a year to year basis. After winning the AL central last year the Guardians have now traded away one of their best hitters Josh Naylor. Puzzling. For the D-Backs, Naylor is a replacement for Christian Walker and will immediately slide into the middle of what should be a very good lineup.
Pete Alonso.
With several of the rumored teams to be in on Alonso opting to go in another direction I’m not sure what the current market for Alonso is. There just aren’t many teams willing to pay a premium for the player that Alonso is. I would love the Mets to bring him back and with the recent signings of Goldschmidt, Walker and Carlos Santana, it seems the Mets are in position to bring back Alonso to fill the current hole at first base.
CFP
What a disappointment. Not one competitive game. Penn State, Notre Dame, Texas and Ohio State made quick work of their opponents as large home favorites. I’m all in favor of allowing more teams in this new version of the CFP, but there needs to be some kind of change because this can’t happen again. Arizona State who received an auto bid and a bye for winning the Big-12 will now play Texas who is favored to win by almost two touchdowns. The same can be said for Penn State who is favored by 10 over Boise State. Ohio State/Oregon and Georgia/Notre Dame should provide some drama. Right? I have no idea what the solution is but something has to change.
