NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Happy Monday everybody! I hope to have the tree up today. I know its late but I think 23rd is good. With that, let’s get to today’s topics: NFL NY Recap, College Football Playoffs, RIP Ricky Henderson!
NFL NY Recap
The Giants played terrible football against the Falcons. I felt it coming so I made sure I added the Falcons defense to my fantasy lineup this game. The Giants did not disappoint, if you were hoping for a putrid performance. Drew Lock is not a horrible back-up but he is not more than a serviceable back-up. He has been asked to lead this terrible team and is doing the best he can. I do thank him for two pick 6 but the whole offense is not impressive and receivers aren’t getting separation so this is what you get. Although the Giants D seems to be hanging in there.
The Jets tried to play spoiler against the LA Rams and for 3 quarters it looked like they would. Then the Rams went on to score 13 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to win 19-9. This is the same Rams offense that torched the Bills for 44 the other week. So the Jets Defense did a wonderful job considering how mediocre they have been all-season. The Aaron Rodgers led offense once again stalled in the redzone and walked away with field goals instead of touchdowns and that is how they got another L.
The Bills continue to be the only NY State team to win. They made hard work of getting past the New England Patriots but they managed to do it. Josh Allen hurt his throwing hand in the game so that hurt the Bills attack but running back James Cook took on the load and led the attack. The Patriots are not the same Patriots and they struggled to know how to win in the final quarter and as they made a turnover that led to a touchdown and by the time they scored, it was too late to really matter.
Talk about a let down. For all that talk about who makes the playoff 12 and who doesn’t and who should have been left out and who wasnt, the first round had no competitive games. I know the who should be in the playoffs has been going on since they moved to a championship. From 2 teams to 4, there was debate. Now we have 12 and there is still debate. I guess like the Basketball tournament, this is for debate on sports radio and websites. Anyway, in each of the 4 games, the lower seed lost and I am talking double digit lost. So SMU, Clemson, Indiana and Tennessee wasted everyone’s time. Thanks for coming, I guess.
RIP Rickey Henderson
To say, Ricky Henderson was the best to ever do it as a leadoff hitter in baseball is an understatement and doesn’t do justice to just how good a leadoff hitter he was. I came to watch baseball and understand who he was in late 80s and it’s insane to me that I continued to watch him play all through the 90s and into the early 2000s. When I joined in the late ’80s, he’d already been playing 10 years. I want to say thank you to CBS Sports here as they made a top 10 list of the most insane stats about Ricky Henderson, so you can grasp his greatness. A couple that stand out are the fact that he stole enough bases to have run a marathon and he led the league in stolen bases his first 7 seasons in the league.
In closing
Not related to anything but Bill Belichick has hired his son Steven to be his DC at UNC. I am not concerned but I just laugh as people never worry about cronyism in sports or real world but lose their mind when they see LeBron get Bronny drafted or affirmative action but look at the path cleared for this kid, a lacrosse player turned football coach.
Thanks for reading and come back tomorrow for Ben Whitney, who will tell you how the NY Rangers will win the Cup.
