NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Happy Monday everybody! The Christmas shopping list is going well and I hope to get on the decorations for the house up this week (don’t judge me). With that, let’s get to today’s topics: NFL NY Recap, Jacob Trouba Traded Soto to the Mets!
NFL NY Recap
The Giants played an ugly game against the Saints. Put it this way, Drew Locke was the Giants leading rusher with 50 yards. The Saints didn’t have much offense but they didn’t need it as the Giants attack was anemic. It was a defensive slugfest and it shows the Giants D has potential but since Brian Dabol is suppose to be an offensive guru so this looks to be a big problem for them. The season is already lost so lets see what he can salvage.
The Jets continue to be horrible at closing out games. Like Dabol of the Giants is suppose to be an offense guy, Ulrich is suppose to be a defense guy but his defense has failed to close out games on back to back Sundays. The problem seems to be the loss of Bryce Huff to Free Agency and Jermaine Johnson to injury. The Jets have a lacked a late game pass rusher to press the offense and force a mistake. This has put pressure on the Defense and they have failed consistently. The Offense seems to be clicking for what its worth as they scored 26 points and Rodgers threw for 300+ yards. This means nothing as the team is headed for a horrible season but they do need to think about draft position and draft needs.
The Bills lost a shootout and basically handed the #1 seed to the KC Chiefs. The Bills are now 10-3 and KC are 12-1 so it will take a miracle of the Chiefs losing 2 of their next five with the Bills winning out. The Refs haven’t let KC lose yet, so that will be rare. The Bills lost a shootout 44-42. Josh Allen threw for 3 TDs and ran for 3 TDs, and yet they came up short. The chant of Allen for MVP may have some basis here, but the loss shows that the Bills defense may just not be ready for big games.
Chris Drury as GM is different. He is one of the youngest GMs and not too removed from his playing days. Jacob Trouba has been with the Rangers for 6 years but he hasn’t looked the same since the end of last season and the start of this season. So Drury asked him to wave his no-trade clause and go somewhere else and spark his fire again. Seems Laviolette as coach wasn’t doing it for him. Somehow the Rangers shipped off to Anaheim for Urho Vaakanainen and draft pick in 2025. Vax – as he is known – will be a depth guy but the Rangers moved 6 million a year off their books. I don’t know how much it helps themto trade a veteran leader and captain but the relationship had gotten strained so this seems like a chance for the Rangers to give some young guys time and maybe if things go right, make a play for a defenseman at the trade deadline.
Soto to the Mets!
I was gonna report on soccer then late Sunday night the big news came through. The NY Mets and Juan Soto have agreed to tentative offer of 15 years and 765 Million. This is a crazy amount of money and it transforms the Mets. I don’t know what this does to the Mets lineup and all they young talented players they have coming up. I know this means that some of the role players like Luis Iglesias and Harrison Bader will not be back. Also looks like homegrown slugger Pete Alonso will also be gone. I honestly think this is crazy, that Soto is 26 and is signing a contract for until he is 41 and at this price tag. I think he makes the starting line-up better but definitely not deeper as a team and what about the pitching, that was what really hurt them in the playoffs. I am curious how this plays out.
Thanks for reading and come back tomorrow for Ben Whitney, who will tell you how Alex Bregman is the better choice.
