SPANISH HARLEM – Baseball is back in full swing and for those that say it started in Tokyo last week, I say… Did it really? Two teams playing real games in another country may seem like a nice idea, except baseball is a regional sport and anyone outside of being a Dodgers or Cubs fan doesn’t care. Today, we get most teams playing on the same day with the others starting on Friday.
Opening day is always special and the New York Yankees will take on the Milwaukee Brewers at Yankees Stadium, with Carlos Rodon on the bump. They have faced an unfair number of injuries to key players, yet you have to believe that most of them could come back healthy this season with the exception being Gerrit Cole. There is still optimism for Giancarlo Stanton until there isn’t so it will take some young prospects to contribute early if they plan to contend in the AL East.
The Yankees tend to not trust their young players so it will be interesting to see if the Yankees make a trade or two for veteran help. I hope that is not the case because they need to put their trust behind the players they develop. It’s time to see what Jasson Dominguez and Ben Rice can do with consistent at bats.

Sure, they will have their ups and downs, as this is not an easy game, but patience can go a long way. Give the same faith they gave to Anthony Volpe and they should be okay in the long run. They are forced to depend on the youth movement to win early part and if they can produce, it can be an exciting summer for fans. If and when we get reinforcements back, they could be a formidable team that can challenge for another American League title. Anything is possible at this time of the year… so dream big.
That’s it for now, please come back tomorrow for more great content from Action Jackson Sternberg.
