SPANISH HALREM – As the injuries continue to mount for the New York Yankees, there is a feeling amongst fans that the season is inevitable over before it began. I tend to have the same fears, as Spring Training is turning into one of nightmares. Let’s discuss the major news that is Gerrit Cole and the other injury that has most fans frustrated.
The GERRIT COLE Effect
I don’t think I’m the only one that felt Cole’s elbow injury would lead to Tommy John Surgery. We had the same scare last season and somehow, he worked through it to lead the team to the World Series. There is no way we get there without him and there is no way we get there again this year without him. Pitching was supposed to be the strongest part of this team but with Cole now down for the year, and Luis Gil gone for 3 months at the very least, it’s fair to say that the staff will be above average at best.
Now it falls on Max Fried to lead this team, and while he is one heck of a pitcher, he’s in a group of guys that we need career years from to remain atop the American League East. I have always liked Carlos Rodon and last year was a better year than the season before, but can he improve on that… I hope so. With that said, the Yankees can be still contenders if the offense is humming on all cylinders, but how far can this group really go without their ace?
GIANCARLO STANTON

Stanton was probably the biggest reason the Yankees were able to make the World Series. But the latest news on him doesn’t make you believe that he will again this year. That sucks… just when I feel the fans started to appreciate what he can do on the biggest stage, we get another year of injuries from a long list of injuries that he has had to deal with throughout his Yankees career. Offensive balance will be key without him, getting production and contributions all across the lineup, still with Stanton out who will protect Aaron Judge moving forward? Maybe I’m sad because of all the Cole news but something got me feeling that we won’t see him again until next season as well.
That’s it for now, please come back tomorrow for more great content from Action Jackson Sternberg.
