PORT JEFF, NY- Greetings. lots to discuss. Lets get into it: Yankees Disastrous Spring, NFL QB Market.
Yankees Disastrous Spring
The Yankees nightmare start to spring training continues as not only is Gerrit Cole experiencing elbow discomfort, but now the elbow injury Giancarlo Stanton has could possibly sideline him for the entire season if he needs surgery. I don’t need to tell you how detrimental it would be to the Yankees if Cole has to miss an extended period of time. Cole wasn’t himself after missing time with the same injury last year, if I’m the Yankees, I’m very worried that Cole’s best days are past him. Behind Cole is a ton of question marks in the rotation. In addition to Cole and Stanton, Luis Gil is also expected to start the year on the IL. The Yankees rotation is very questionable aside from Max Fried at this point. The roster is still very good, perhaps the best in the AL, but at some point the lack of depth and reliability of guys is going to be an issue at some point this year.
Raiders get Geno
The Raiders traded a third round pick for Geno Smith. This is an interesting move. The trade reunites Geno with Pete Carroll. The Raiders aren’t any good, however they are compiling a somewhat interesting offense. They’ve brought in Chip Kelly as the OC, they have Brock Bowers who’s coming off a historical rookie season, and now they finally have at least a competent QB. This move makes the Raiders more competitive but in a stacked AFC west this doesn’t move the needle enough. You can pretty much pencil the Raiders in for anywhere between 5-8 wins.
Darnold
The Vikings aren’t expected to bring back Sam Darnold, after electing to not franchise tag him. I’m not sure the kind of market Darnold will command, but I have some ideas where he might end up.
The Seahawks are the most logical landing spot for Darnold after trading Geno. They have a ton of talent on offense, and they have plenty of cap space to improve a bad O-line.
Giants QB decision

The Giants continue to be at the center of rumors for the available Quarterbacks. Whether it’s Rodgers, Darnold or trading for the first pick, the Giants will have a new QB come week 1. I think singing Darnold would be a mistake. As I’ve said for weeks, this roster is bad. Pouring money into a QB who’s had one year of success on a perfect team would be a massive mistake. I also think signing Rodgers would be a mistake because I simply don’t think this roster is good enough to compete with a QB of his caliber. Then there’s the option of drafting a QB, I suppose this is my preferred option of the three if only because there’s a chance you get lucky and hit the lottery and we find the QB of the future. However I’m skeptical that guy exists in this draft class.
