MLB trade deadline fallout—one of my favorite times of the season—is here. Numerous teams have made moves to strengthen their rosters for a late postseason push, while others, like the Mets, focused on selling and building for the future. Notable transactions include the Mets trading reliever Luke Weaver to the Pirates for their number nine prospect, sending Huscar Brazobán to the White Sox for two top-30 organizational prospects, and trading Brooks Raley to the Phillies. They also dealt Freddie Peralta, a move widely praised by baseball analysts, particularly the Peralta and Weaver trades. Other teams, such as the Yankees and Padres, made significant additions as well. The Yankees acquired Luis García Jr. from the Nationals and Heloit Ramos from the Giants, while the Padres bolstered their roster with key players, including Robbie Ray and Casey Mize.
Summerslam fallout—SummerSlam delivered exactly what fans hoped for, making it a truly memorable event. The matches were fantastic, and there were some surprising returns. Night one saw CM Punk retain his WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes, while Brock Lesnar officially retired. Night two featured the return of one of my personal favorites, Kevin Owens, who had been out for nearly a year due to a real-life neck injury. Owens faced Sami Zayn and Finn Balor in a match to determine who would challenge CM Punk at the next pay-per-view, though no one emerged victorious, setting up an epic feud between Owens and Punk, two of the best wrestlers in the world. Additionally, the long-running rivalry between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins reached its conclusion, with Reigns, the Tribal Chief, securing his first singles victory over Rollins at a pay-per-view.
