LIVERPOOL — It was forty-two years ago today…arguably the greatest album of all time was released. In honor, let’s revisit the set list (and sorry, no cut-out mustaches, for those of you who remember your parents’ LP):
SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND: Averaging about a dozen fans per game, the The Florida Marlins must be very lonely indeed.
WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS: The subtitle to Barry Bonds’s home run record.
LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS: Doc Ellis’s theme song.
GETTING BETTER: Posada’s back, Texiera’s hitting, A-Rod’s hitting, CMW seems to be over his early season jitters, the Yankees are in first place in the AL East.
FIXING A HOLE: This could be whichever team ends up with Jake Peavy in their rotation, but for now it’s got to be the 2009 Mets: F-Rod is perfect in save chances, with a .076 ERA
SHE’S LEAVING HOME: The NCAA Women’s Softball World Series is worth a look if you haven’t checked it out…though why can’t these girls wear actual hats instead of visors and headbands?
BEING FOR THE BENEFIT OF MR. KITE: There will be a show tonight…Yanks-Tribe is the Monday Night Game on ESPN.
WITHIN YOU WITHOUT YOU: Something went within Manny, and now the Dodgers are without him.
WHEN I’M SIXTY FOUR: Jamie Moyer will reach 300 wins.
LOVELY RITA: The Meter’s running on how long the hype machine continues to pound on the Orioles’ wovely Wieters.
GOOD MORNING GOOD MORNING: Patriot’s Day in Boston, you get the Marathon, and you get a ballgame before noon (at least out here on the West Coast, the game starts at 9 am).
SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND (reprise): Why aren’t there any Silly Sym-phonies in major league parks these days? Wouldn’t that be pretty cool?
A DAY IN THE LIFE: I read Meet the Matts today, oh boy. Tell your friends, I’d love to turn you on.
There you have it. As always, it’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill. You’re such a lovely audience we’d like to take you home with us. We’d love to take you home.
