George Michaels, Fantasy Football, UFC 207, World Juniors

EL BRONX, EL BARRIO – I assumed Short Matt is overwhelmed so I am gonna use my lunch break to pump out a piece because we never take a day off here at MTM.  I will give you a song of the week then shift to: George Michaels, Fantasy Football, UFC 207, World Juniors.

Let’s begin with the music…

Song of the Week: I am a huge George Michaels fan. Always have been and Always will be. His loss really hurt because me and my brother loved his music.  This is the third death of a musician I loved this year.  Michaels was a part of my formative years and though his message was rarely deep or profound, his music was always fun to listen to and hard to deny. I was in college and still listening to  “knew you were waiting for me,” his duet with Aretha Franklin. That is why my Song of the Week is his legendary track… Freedom ’90!

Now for the sports…

Fantasy Football: I jsut wanted to take this chance to brag that I won my work league. I want to thank DJ Eberle for his drafting strategy advice. It made all the difference this year. I won one league and made it ot he final in another league.

UFC 207: I won’t be watching this. I enjoy UFC but I am not dying to see it. It has usurped boxing and that is good. What Dana White has built and remains the face of despite selling it and getting wealthy is impressive. The main thing they have done is let people the fans wnat to see fight, fight. They don’t care about records as much entertainment. This is a simple yet effective market strategy. I don’t know if Rousey will bounce back but it will be fun to watch.

World Juniors: The USA gave Russia the business. No I am not talking about reports that the USA sent 35 Russian foreign office workers home and sanctioned the country,. I am talking about the more important business of Hockey and the World Juniors. This tournament features the NHL’s top under-20 prospects. And with their 3-2 victory.against the Russians that sets up an important Saturday showdown against Canada to be a No. 1 seed in the World Junior Championships. Dispatching the Russians will be easier than dispatching the Canucks, who love their hockey more than anyone can fathom. I am not bothered if we lose this match, as long the USA take the cup, that is what this is all aboot.

That’s all I have… Please come back tomorrow  And feel free to leave your thoughts below and follow us on Twitter – @JunoirBlaber & @MeetTheMatts and like our Facebook page, Meet The Matts.
