Big Ben Tuesday: Jrue and Lilliard, Revisiting off-season NBA trades, Judge crushing without Soto, Dodgers in the Bronx

Stamford, CT: The NBA Finals are all but over, with Boston looking like the far more sophisticated team. The Yankees lost two of three in the Bronx with Soto out, but Aaron Judge continued to mash. Dodgers’ fans invaded the Stadium in the mass, stinking up the place.

Holiday, Let’s Celebrate

When a team with expectations falls short for two or three years, GMs are always tempted to try something else. But sometimes you change out the wrong parts.

I’ve argued that the 14-2 full strength Knicks could have given the Celtics a run for money, and I still think that series would’ve been competitive. We’ll never know, but I’ve cooled on that some after watching these finals, in large part because of Jrue Holiday. He and Derrick White would have made it really tough on Jalen Brunson. And unlike the Mavs, the Celtics don’t depends on one or two guys to drive the offense.

The Celtics got Jrue for a few bench players and draft picks. And adding Porzingis for Marcus Smart, who supposedly was the heart and soul of the team. Well, I guess that overrated.

Those were championship winning moves.

Dame Time Hits Curfew

On the other side of the coin, we have the Bucks. They have fallen short in the playoffs since winning it all in 2021. But Giannis and other injuries were a big part of the problem.

But they decided it was Dame Time and shook things up by moving on from Jrue and bringing in Lilliard. Well, it didn’t work, in part due to more injuries. They have likely set the franchise back.

Moving on from the underrated Jrue is looking like a huge mistake.

Judge Smashing, With or Without Soto

So much for the weak argument the Aaron Judge was dominating because of Soto hitting in front of him. Judge drove in the Yanks’ only run on Friday and then hit three bombs on Saturday and Sunday.

It was funny that the Yankees’ fans were chanting “we want Soto.” Who cares about his forearm, he might only be here one year. Run him into the ground, we say.

Dodgers’ Fans Turn Bronx a Lighter Blue

It was also amusing that people were up in arms about the Dodgers’ fans invading Yankee Stadium. It turns out they’ve been coordinating it for two years. When New Yorkers show up at a road stadium, it doesn’t have to be coordinated in advance. Super lame. That’s reason number 6,326 that LA is a crappy sports town.

That’s it for me. Speaking of super lame, come back tomorrow for Angry Ward.
