ARLINGTON, TX – It was four years ago when a so-called bout between Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr. took place in Los Angeles. The event was billed as, “Lockdown Knockdown.” The anticipation to the return of 54-year-old “Iron Mike” was similar to the back in the days “Dynamite Mike,” when he was the one round knockout artist. What a sham that turned out to be as Snoop Dogg described it best when he said, “I feel like I’m watching my two drunk uncles fighting at a barbecue.” It was a total waste of time that had viewers crying foul.
Guess what happened four years later? 58-year-old Mike Tyson found himself inside a ring with 28-year-old Jake Paul, who portrays himself as a boxer, but is actually a social media influencer with a mighty large following. This is who young people are following, and then we wonder why the future is in trouble.
For Tyson he had 20 million reasons to follow Paul into the ring, and his pathetic performance showed that’s all he cared about. Paul was no better as his $40 million payday sent the message of; thank you fools for watching.
Thanks to the savior Amanda Serrano for saving what turned out to be a scam event. She lost a controversial decision to Katie Taylor in what turned out to possibly be, “The Fight of the Year.” The Bronx Boricua gave us the true meaning of “The Sweet Science” with her warrior performance.
As for the main event, everyone was muttering about how Father Time has caught up to Tyson and referred to him as sad. The only sad ones were folks like me and the rest of the world who fell for this scam.
While Tyson runs, or should I say walks gingerly, to the bank to cash his payday, I’m jogging to the gym to get in shape for a con like this event. I’m putting it out there that I want to fight Mike Tyson on the under-card of another one of Jake Paul’s “suckers tune in” events.
Just my entrance will capture interest as I’ll have Will Smith, in his rap mode, spitting out his 1989 hit, “I Think I can Beat Mike Tyson.” Gimme a call Jake Paul!
