Mets Falling Apart, Giants Struggles Continue

PORT JEFF, NY –We could all use a distraction from the world. Here are my offerings toward that end: Mets Falling Apart, Giants Struggles Continue

Mets Falling Apart

The New York Mets are in the midst of a collapse. As of now, they still hold the third wild card spot by two games over the Reds and Giants, but the team has become increasingly noncompetitive. Since their commanding sweep over the rival Phillies at home, the Mets have faltered. The starting pitching has been a major concern, with the exception of Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong, while the bullpen has been in disarray since June, apart from the dependable Diaz and Rodgers. Additionally, the starting lineup has been inconsistent on a nightly basis. Despite these struggles, the talent and potential of this team cannot be overlooked. They have shown their capabilities before and possess too much skill to fade away entirely. For the Mets, the path forward is clear: put the Philadelphia series behind them and focus on playing as strongly at home as they have all season. However, the challenge will be formidable, as Jacob deGrom, now with Texas, is set to start against them for the first time. The mantra remains: Ya Gotta Believe

Giants Struggles Continue

Jackson Sternberg

The Giants’ struggles continue, and I have to chime in. It didn’t take long for them to undo all the goodwill built in the offseason, with a 21-6 loss to Washington that highlighted the offensive line’s issues in yet another season opener. Missing their franchise left tackle Andrew Thomas was glaring, as the offense completely stalled without him. All the talk about which quarterback might start feels irrelevant if the Giants can’t block. Perhaps it’s not so shocking since they entered 2025 with the same offensive lineup, aside from the QB. Maybe Jaxson Dart can elevate the line when he starts, but starting a season where John Mara said he’s “running out of patience” is baffling. Does Joe Schoen realize his job is on the line? For the third straight year, the Giants face a must-win in Week 2, heading to Dallas, where they haven’t won since 2016.

Jackson and his twin brother Jacob are son's of MTM legend, Al Sternberg. Being the youngest of the twins by 10 minutes, Jackson knows the value of time. Look for him and Jacob to collaborate and/or create separately. Family quirk: the twins don Speedos when wake-boarding on Long Island's beaches.
