Mets Revamped Rotation

Port Jeff NY- Greetings and Happy March! The countdown to Opening Day inches closer! Until then let’s talk some Metsies!

Mets Revamped Rotation

In the disastrous conclusion to the 2025 season for the New York Mets, they struggled at almost every facet of the game. For large portions of the season they almost never could string together quality starts from their starters. That put an exceptional amount of stress on the bullpen, which struggled mightily.

As we head into the 2026 season, outside of the blockbuster addition of Freddy Peralta, who should be this teams ace for the next decade, David Sterns has quietly put together a formidable rotation that should have a fair amount of depth.

Behind Peralta, the rotation projects to be Nolan McLean, David Peterson, Clay Holmes and some combination of Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea and Jonah Tong. McLean was exceptional in his brief time in the majors last season and if he’s anywhere near the level he was his rookie year, he and Peralta will form one of the best frontline rotations in baseball.

With the top of the rotation seemingly set, there are still lots of question marks with the rest. There is no bigger mystery than Senga. The Japanese import is coming off a very strange season that was once again plagued by injuries. His underlying metrics remained strong prior to the injury but his season took a turn for the worse after suffering a hamstring injury. Thanks, Pete Alonso. If Senga can possibly find something close to the form we saw from him his first seasons as a Met, it would provide anther frontline arm at a very affordable cost.

Similar to Senga, Manaea also stepped back coming off a career season. He too, struggled to stay on the field in 2025, though his strikeout numbers remained strong indicating his stuff is still above average and able to perform at a high level.

The Mets don’t need all these guys to return to their peak form and frankly, it’s unlikely they will. However, if they’re even 50% of what they were a season ago and if some combination of Peterson, Christian Scott, Holmes and Tong can emerge as a consistent option for this team, they all of a sudden have one of the deepest rotations In baseball
