Port Jeff NY- Greetings. Let’s get right into today’s topics. They are: Mets Drop Tenth Straight, Knicks Take Game One
Mets Drop Tenth Straight
I’m at a loss for words at this point.
The Mets have fallen to 7-14, seven games out of first place and have now lost ten consecutive games. Today, at this minute, this is the worst team in baseball. The offense ranks 29th in OPS, and without Juan Soto this is easily the worst offensive team in the league. It starts with Lindor who for several years now has struggled out of the gate. However, this is far worse then anything we’ve seen from him in years past. Failing Frankie currently has an OPS of .626 and has driven in one run all season.
It doesn’t all fall on him, though. This lineup is incredibly weak. Guys are taking bad at bats and are simply not making solid contact. I expect that at some guys with proven track records like Lindor and Bichette will pick it up, but guys like Vientos, Baty and Benge – who are being relied on as key members of this lineup – have been horrific to start the season. Worse, I’m not sure we’ll see an improvement. Losing ten straight games means just about anything is on the table, though. I don’t think the brunt of it iss Carlos Mendoza’s fault, as the players right now are simply not performing well enough. It’s fair to wonder how low this team can get and whether or not Sterns and the front office will feel as though a change is needed.

Knicks Take Game One
It was an impressive all around performance from the Knicks as they handled the Hawks with relative ease. The Knicks are clearly the better team in this series and should advance only dropping a game or two. Being the three seed was somewhat of an unlucky draw, as they’re now likely to face the Celtics in round two, should each team advance. Following the injury to Jayson Tatum last postseason, it looked like this would be a reset season for the Celtics. It’s been anything but that. For about two months Boston has been the best team in basketball. They unexpectedly returned to full strength with Tatum returning from injury earlier then expected. Jaylen Brown is ascending to a true superstar level, and the acquisition of Nikola Vu?evi?.
I believe in this Knicks team and I believe in Jalen Brunson. However, I’m really not sure they can beat the Celts in a seven game series.
