Wild NBA Offseason Continues

Jaylen Brown to the Sixers

Another week, another blockbuster NBA trade. This time, the Celtics have traded star wing Jaylen Brown to the 76ers in exchange for Paul George and draft picks.

I have absolutely no idea why the Celtics made this move. The only explanation that comes to mind is that there’s something we don’t know about behind the scenes—perhaps an issue within the locker room that convinced Brad Stevensthere was no way to repair the relationship between Brown and the organization.

Brown is an elite player who excels in nearly every aspect of the game and is still in the prime of his career. He’s been instrumental in Boston’s success over the past several seasons, which makes it difficult to understand why they would move him for a player like George, who is clearly past his prime and carries one of the worst contracts in the NBA.

From the Sixers’ perspective, I love the trade. Pairing Brown with Tyrese Maxey gives Philadelphia one of the most talented backcourts in the league, and anything they can get from Joel Embiid at this stage is a bonus. If Embiid can stay healthy, the Sixers suddenly look like legitimate championship contenders.

Raptors get Kawhi

LeBron James might be heading back to Cleveland, but Kawhi Leonard is officially returning to Toronto. Everything really does come full circle in the NBA.

I like this trade for both sides. The Raptors add Kawhi to a talented team that nearly knocked off the Cavaliers in the first round this past season. The duo of Leonard and Scottie Barnes instantly makes Toronto one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and a nightmare defensively. Kawhi’s championship experience and two-way dominance should elevate an already dangerous roster.

LeBron’s next team

As previously mentioned, LeBron will once again be playing for a new team. Where he’ll end up remains to be seen.

Personally, I’d love to see LeBron return to Cleveland and join a Cavaliers team that’s on the verge of becoming a true championship contender. On the other hand, the possibility of LeBron returning to Miami to team up with Giannis Antetokounmpo, or joining forces with Stephen Curry in Golden State, would also be incredible storylines. No matter where he lands, LeBron’s decision will likely be the move that defines this unforgettable NBA offseason.
