SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – You know, I could have easily made this about the Buffalo Bills.
Considering Marcell Dareus is going to rehab, rookie sensation Karlos Williams was cut just hours before Saturday’s game against the New York Giants and outside linebacker Manny Lawson could very well miss the season opener because of a suspension, there was a lot to write about.
Then the Bills went out and stomp on the Giants for four quarters Saturday. They dominated the G-Men (???). So naturally, being as optimistic as I am, I’m feeling pretty good about the Bills right now.
Since the Summer Olympics finished up last night, why not take some time to discuss the Rio Games one last time.
Here’s this week’s edition of Ebs’ Hot Takes!
Michael Phelps shouldn’t retire. I get it Mikey, you want to retire to spend time with your family.
That’s great and all, but you have like three to five decades to do that. You’re athletic prime is running out, and I believe you have one more Olympic Games left in the tank.
I’m not saying Michael Phelps needs to do a six-race program, but if he was to swim in the three relays he competed in, in Rio and his signature event – the 200-meter butterfly. That’s four events and three of them are relays. Considering how dominant Phelps looked this time around, he could take a couple years off from his intense training and be able to pick himself up and give it one last try.
He’d probably still walk away with three or four more golds, too.
What’s next for Usain Bolt? Just because Usain Bolt is retiring as a sprinter doesn’t mean he won’t considering competing in the Olympics in the future.
Hey, the last thing he did after winning the 4×100-meter relay Saturday night was throw a javelin. I mean, he probably doesn’t have a future in the javelin, but there’s the long jump and the middle distances. Bolt has said the long jump is something he’d like to try, and the 400 meters was once tabbed his second-best event. When South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk broke Michael Johnson’s 17-year-old world record in the 400, setting the new mark at 43.03, Bolt said there was only two people who really had a chance at breaking the record – van Niekerk and himself.
So there’s that.
Finally! Where has the USA men’s basketball team been? It only took the entire Olympic tournament for the United States men’s basketball team to find its form. Better late than never, I guess.
Without players like LeBron James, Steph Curry, Chris Paul and Anthony Davis on the team and the team struggling in almost every stage, some wondered if the United States would be able to win gold. I, however, was not one of those people. Personally, I think a team like the Boston Celtics or even the Minnesota Timberwolves or could probably win gold, or at least get a medal. But maybe that’s just me.
If there was ever a sport Americans should dominate, it should be in basketball. The women’s team did it with ease, and it was nice to see the men follow suit. Luckily it seems like the men’s team’s minor scare got LeBron thinking. Hopefully he plays in Tokyo.
Also, can we take a moment to give Carmelo Anthony a shoutout? The guy gets killed by fans, and many readers and writers here, but hey, the guy now has three Olympic gold medals. He’s the only man to do it. Pretty impressive.
