EL BARRIO, EL FALLS – Happy Monday! With the Super Bowl just played why is it still Monday Morning QB? Well, that is because the title is familiar but we now have the XFL. In addition to speaking about the newest football league, we will also discuss the MLB blockbuster off-season trade in Baseball.
The XFL
I knew this league was coming back but totally forgot about it until I was looking to see what sports were on TV this weekend. Now following up on the collapse of the Association of American Football (AAF), people are curious to see how long this league lasts. This is the second incarnation of the XFL, but this may be a better time for it.
More channels needing programming and football has made itself, the number 1 sport in America. The league also doesn’t have to be as radical or extreme like it had to be the first time around. It appears people just want to watch an entertaining game of football. By that yardstick, it seems like the league had a good week 1. Lots of touchdowns, big plays and competitive matches. That is all people wanted and it was delivered. Now they just need to do it again for the next couple of months.
Mookie Betts Trade
Here’s the full layout of Tuesday’s initial trade before the medical reviews got in the way:
- Dodgers get: Mookie Betts, David Price, cash (all from Boston)
- Red Sox get: Alex Verdugo (from Dodgers), Brusdar Graterol (from Twins)
- Twins get: Kenta Maeda (from Dodgers)
The Red Sox gave up a lot of talent and cash to move Betts and Price. They get young talent and pitching plus draft picks in return… The Twins moved some salary to get Maeda, which is not a different a bad return. Due to medicals and such, the deal was originally held up but now that it has gone through, it will be interesting to see how things shake out. Betts has made out like bandit and will do so again in Free Agency next year… The Dodgers seem to be in a win-now mode. Their roster is already a bit heavy with players in their prime and being compensated properly. This maybe their final chance to win a title with the talent on their roster so they are gonna go for it. The Dodgers are also no threat to the Sox, as they are in a different league, so it make sense for everyone in the deal.
