PORT JEFF, NY – Each week I try and come up with clever ways to reintroduce myself. How about we skip that part and get right to the business of talking sports? Here’s the slate: What’s Next for Yanks? College Hoops Futures, Jets Big Win
What’s Next for Yanks?
After losing the World Series to the Dodgers in embarrassing fashion, the whole baseball world has been wondering what the Yankees have to do to get back here again next year. It may be without Juan Soto, who is a pending free agent. But it also comes with lingering questions about some core pieces. Gleyber Torres, who has been as inconstant as they come, and Anthony Rizzo, who had one of his worst seasons as a pro, top the list.
On the pitching side… How about key relievers Luke Weaver and Clay Holmes? Holmes should be a priority for the Yankees after rediscovering himself as a late-inning reliever. Weaver proved to be one of the only Pinstripers who truly showed up in every game that mattered. As inconsistent as Holmes has been, I do think the Bronx Bombers should at least try and get him back on a one-year “prove it” deal. As we know, it is damn near impossible to find high-leverage arms.
Then there’s the 700-million-dollar elephant in the room. I don’t think anyone really knows what the future holds for Soto, other then he looks to be mercenary, looking toward the highest bid.
College Basketball Bets
With the season tipping off on Monday, I have some picks in mind that I just had to share. We’ll start off in the Atlantic 10 Conference… The Dayton Flyers are always a sneaky team to watch for in March, as they have taken over the conference as the best team. But for some reason, they are not favored to win their conference. Currently sitting at 5-1 to win the A-10, it seems puzzling. With the addition of former St. Johns Guard Posh Alexander and Ohio State big man Zed Key, the Flyers should fly high once again (see what I did there?) and win their league running away.
My last college hoops futures bet comes as the winner of the Natty. Since I live in New York, I cannot pick my Red Storm to cut down the nets in March, so I’ll settle on the Houston Cougars at 2500 to 1. The Cougars are no stranger to playing deep into March: they’ve become one of the standard programs since Kelvin Sampson took over. With the return of LJ Cryer, the Cougars have the championship pedigree and DNA it takes to win it all. Plus, the odds being as high as they are make them intriguing. This seems like a very good value spot if you’re into that type of thing.
Jets Bif Win
In a must-win game, the Jets and Aaron Rodgers finally showed up after weeks of misery. Gang Green crushed CJ Stroud and the Houston Texans to get to 3-6 on the season. After this the Jets only play one team with a record currently over .500. As I mentioned previously, if anyone can take his team on a run it would be Rodgers. We finally saw the connection to Davante Adams, which led to his first TD as a Jet.
That’s it for me. Feel free to weigh in below and come back tomorrow for Aristotle “Mugsy’ Sakellaridis.
