OMAR, CASHMAN, MANUEL OR GIRARDI: WHO GOES FIRST?

NEW YORK, NY – After surviving another fun-fest in the Queen City – Buffalo, NY – we packed up our Buffalo Bison apparel and University At Buffalo Rugby gear and headed back to rain-soaked New York City to finally accept that baseball season is truly upon us. You see, we’ve been only semi-embracing it thus far, as we’re still scarred from the last two seasons of last-day Armageddons for the Mets and not-wished-for results for the Yanks. We were able to lose ourselves somewhat with Henrik Lundquist and Sean Avery and Marty Brodeur but they are all golfing or curling someplace, now. We also had the rugby thing to keep us somewhat distracted but that’s over, too. So, here we are. Both of us lonely, longing for shelter… Wait, that’s a segue for a different day. Anyway, with the realization that the season is in full swing (pun intended), we now must consider the inevitable; that either Omar Minaya, Brian Cashman, Jerry Manuel or Joe Girardi will get fired. What’s more is that it could be all of them.

OMAR: He should have been fired immediately after saying this:

There is a smile on David Wright’s face, a smile on Jose Reyes’s face. But there is not an edge to them… Some people see edge as leadership. Sometimes, you need a little meanness to your game. Some people perceive leadership as meanness.”

He built this froggin’ team. He changed some relief pitchers and added a utility guy and a 40-year-old steroid user – THAT’S IT! He should go and he should go now. Check that, have him go with the team on their next west coast trip and fire him in his hotel at 1:15 AM.

CASHMAN: The only thing that keeps Cashman alive in his job is that somehow the Steinbrenners realize they are insane and that ultimately, it matters not who the GM is. That doesn’t excuse Cashman from Pavano, Damon, Johnson, Clemens, Igawa, Abreu, A-Rod, Steve Trout, Ed Whitson, Steve Sax & Britt Burns.

MANUEL: He’s nuts. We liked that at first. But he lost us Matts, most of Mattville and likely the team with failure to have Wright bunt in the 9th (when he couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat) and then subjected Ramon Castro to the humiliation of having Omir Santos pinch hit for him with the bases loaded. The humiliation came with Omir – often confused with Omar as they are never seen in the same place – having to come in from the bullpen, where he was busy tending to Joe Pignatano’s garden.

GIRARDI: It will come out that Joe, who we like enough to hire as Manuel’s replacement, did steroids. There is no question in our minds. If and when it does, he will look like a chump for his comments concerning the overkill on A-Rod.

There. That’s a brief outline of each potential firing. Wouldn’t it be cool if they all got fired – on the same weekend? That would shake things up in baseball, wouldn’t it? You bet it would. That said, our prediction is the easy one: Manuel first, then Omar. Cashman and Girardi will last the season.

That’s all for today, please chime in below, hunker down for Angry Ward tomorrow and tell some FROGGING PEOPLE ABOUT MTM!!!
