“Do onto others as you would want them to do onto you… But if you don’t read this and comment, I will kick your ass.” –Junior “Not Incognito” Blaber EL BARRIO, BRONX: The Golden Rule, as its known. It plays a part in today’s sermon from… the Bully Pulpit. First from a religious stand point, how could no one inform Angry Ward that this holiday season we have Thanksgiving and Hanukkah on the same weekend aka Gobble Tov or Thanksgivakkah, so you may need to redo your movie list. I am here – and not on a Saturday – because of The Golden Rule. Short Matt asked me to pinch hit today for a lying-in-the-sun Lori Levine and a coed-controlled Cam James, and seeing as I fumbled the ball last Saturday, I couldn’t leave the MTM crew short-handed. Anyway, here are my thoughts on Jonathan Martin, Rich Incognito, Geno Smith and Tyson Chandler.
JonathanMartin is the first thing I want to talk about – we’ll get to Rich Incognito in a minute. Poor Jonathan walked out on the Miami Dolphins after being abused by Incognito, after the Dolphins coaching staff did nothing about it. You feel for the young guy, as no one deserves a hostile work environment. But you will have 9-5 hardened people saying they would have fought back and that the kid is too soft for the game and all this mess. I say, those folks are just projecting their lifetime failures and desires to be a NFL star on the kid. I have played rugby with some of the. toughest – yet nicest – guys you can imagine. Everyone is motivated different. This isn’t HS or College; like all of us they are paid professionals and no one should have to work for a company after receiving messages threatening their life and the life of a family member from a co-worker. I am not even going into the racially-charged epithets. The Miami Dolphins coaching staff and management knew and didn’t act. Or worse – encouraged it in the hopes of toughening Martin up. A disgrace all around. As for Mr. Incognito, he lives up to his names. Richard can be shortened to Rich, Rick or if you go back to former President Nixon, Dick… Incognito mean to be in disguise or hiding, so as can be seen. So, combined we have a Dick in disguise… credit to my co-worker for bringing that to my attention.
But there pressing questions for the Incognito Dick: 1) Why would you leave a voicemail, Mr. Incognito? All these messages are recorded for history so are you trying to get caught? 2) Racial epithets are so passe! Martin being a half-breed, when our President is a half-breed, sounds desperate. 3) We have yet to hear a clear explanation on why you believe Martin deserved this abuse. Was it work or personal? Either way you are really poor at this – so stop and turn yourself in. Persons that also owe an explanation (in a different way altogether) are those that turned their backs on Geno Smith. I know as a Jets fan I blinded by my bias – but not so in this case. This kid is throwing to guys named Greg Salas and Brett Scufield and still winning games. Those guys aren’t household names in their own household. Teammate Willie Colon in a interview said “#17’s (Greg Salas) locker has been next to mine for the last two weeks, I will have to introduce myself to him. He played a great game.” That tells you all you need to know about the guys Geno is winning with. 
Speaking of winning, don’t expect the Knicks to do much of it in the next 4-6 weeks. Apparently Tyson Chandler is out injured with a broken bone. This guy was the heart of the defense and the main shot blocker. The Knicks will be lucky to go .500 without him. Somebody tell Lala Anthony to tell her pet/husband Carmelo, its time to step up and be a leader.
