Ebs’ Hot Takes: Buffalo Bills, Chicago Cubs, Syracuse Hoops

WILKES-BARRE, PA – So, I didn’t know what to do Sunday.

With the Buffalo Bills playing in Seattle on Monday night, I didn’t have to go to a bar to watch the game. It was different to say the least. I actually got to enjoy a day of football and not fret about the play of the Bills for once.

But needless to say, I can’t wait for Monday night’s game. I didn’t get to watch last year’s edition on TV because I waspercy-harvin actually at it, so I’m interested to see what Jon Gruden has to say about the Bills. Plus, Bruce Smith will be on Monday NFL Countdown. That will be fun.

Anyways, I’ve dragged this open on for too long. Here’s this week’s edition of Ebs’ Hot Takes!

Monday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks is a must win for the Buffalo Bills! Look, I know it’s only Week 9, but at 4-4 the Bills don’t have many more mulligans.

Taking on the Seattle Seahawks on prime time at CenturyLink Field is a tough ask for even the league’ most-elite teams. However, there’s something about this Seahawks team that makes them vulnerable.

They’re banged up. And that gives the Bills a chance. With a hobbled Russell Wilson, a sputtering run game and a banged up defense, Buffalo has a shot.

I feel pretty good about the defense’s chances to stop the Seattle offense, but can Tyrod Taylor and Co. put up enough points to win? With LeSean McCoy and Marquise Goodwin expected to play and Percy Harvin back in the fold, I have hope.

Bills win 14-10.

Go, Cubs, Go! Even though the New York Yankees weren’t in this year’s edition of the Fall Classic, it was still very enjoyable.

joe-maddonNot only will it go down as one of the best World Series in MLB history, but living in Wilkes-Barre now, I got to cover the game from afar.

It turns out Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon grew up the next town over from Wilkes-Barre. So just before the playoffs, I got to talk to his family members and friends about the impact of his hometown, Hazleton, Pa., and his upbringing on his managerial style. Here’s the link if you’d like to check it out.

Fast forward to Game 7… I sat in a Hazleton bar with a lot of Maddon’s childhood friends and watched the game unfold. Talk about a rush. We had to push the deadline back twice just to get my story in the paper. It was an evening I’ll never forget. Here’s the link to that story – and a video – if you’d like to check this one out too.

With such youth, it’d be hard to argue against the start of a dynasty.

The ‘CUSE are back! Hey, college basketball starts this week!

Unlike last year, the Syracuse men’s basketball team will start the season already on the map, and with big expectations.

With an exciting trio of freshmen, led by Tyus Battle, now in the fold, the Orange might actually have some depth this season.

Is this the year Syracuse wins their second NCAA title? We’ll see! And I can’t wait to find out.
