WILKES-BARRE, PA – Jeez, I was really looking forward to sitting down to watch Game 2 of the NBA Finals Sunday night.
Then, midway though the third quarter the game was out of hand and I put on an episode of Psych, which is a great show by the way. But that’s not the point.
I massively underestimated the Golden State Warriors.
This Warriors team might be the best ever. They added a former MVP, who’s still in his prime, to a team that finished 73-9 last year.
I understand that I’m only 25, but come on. This is incredible. I’ve certainly never seen a team like this in my lifetime.
While the Cleveland Cavaliers kept pace in the first half on Sunday, you never felt that the Warriors lost control. Cleveland kept up, but that was it. And then they ran out of gas.
Sure, LeBron James is the best player in the world, and maybe the best ever, but Golden State has just way too much talent. They have four of the top, what, 10 players in the league? While Cleveland has LeBron, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, they don’t have four guys of that caliber like Golden State does.
Cleveland turned the Warriors over 20 times on Sunday and still lost by 19 points. The Cavs couldn’t have done much more. They basically played a perfect game and that wasn’t anywhere near good enough.
It’s pretty simple. The Cavs don’t have the talent to take down Golden State four times. While I believe that if Kevin Durant was out of the equation, Cleveland would take this series pretty easily, but he just tips the scale way too much. KD is too good.
It’s almost frustrating as a fan of the NBA.
The first three rounds were already boring, and now the NBA Finals has seen double-digit victories in each of the first two games. Not good.
Needless to say, my Cavs in seven pick does not look very good. While I still like Cleveland at home, I find it hard to believe that Golden State will lose a game in Oracle Arena.
You just have to tip your hat to the Warriors. They’re really, really good. Almost too good.
But hey, at least it looks like the Buffalo Bills will sign Jeremy Maclin. So I have that going for me.
