Sports Rain Man: Jets Lose to Eagles, Giants fall to Fish, Bills face Pats, NCAA & NFL News

EL BARRIO, EL FALLS – Happy Monday Last week we were celebrating all 3 NY teams winning. Now we face the distinct possibility that the Bills, Jets and Giants will all take an L this weekend. The latter two have done their part and failed, now it is all up to the Orchard Park… um, Buffalo Bills. Anyway, let’s get to today’s topics: Jets Lose to Eagles, Giants fall to Fish, Bills face Pats, NCAA & NFL News.

Jets Lose to Eagles

Jets gonna Jet?! That was the response to a tweet when someone asked, “How can the both the Jets and Eagles score three touchdowns in the same half and yet the Jets are down by a field goal?” This was after a first half that had the Jets down 21-18, due to missed converions. What made the Jets performance more frustrating was that Buddy Diaz’s Eagles were missing their starting QB Jalen “Everybody” Hurts, and had backup Gardner Minshew II (How there is more than one person with that name?) in the game and he was the one lighting up the Jets defense. What made this defeat worse was while it looked like Gang Green was going to be in a shootout, the Eagles made halftime adjustments. The Jets, meanwhile, failed at their whatever theirs were. The one bright spot is Jets rookie QB Zach Wilson looked better and threw for another two touchdowns, the 4 weeks out seemed to have helped his growth.

Giants Fall to Fish

Giants need Dan Jones at the helm… Because this Mike Glennon guy aint getting it done for them. He is not scaring anyone. So Barkley has nowhere to run the offense has to win by passing and Glennon aint the guy for that. The Giants could only muster up 3 field goals against the Dolphins while the Dolphins attack put up 20 points. I don’t think the Giants defense played poorly, considering giving 20 is not bad in today’s NFL, it was the offense that was a killer.

Bills Face the Pats

Dr. Evil is back on top of the AFC East. Belichick’s found his “safety first” QB in Mac Jones. Jones played for a Belichick protege in Nick Saban, so similar system and similar demands of the coach. You add that to the fact that all the defensive players that took last season off because of Covid are back. That is why the Pats have the longest winning streak (6 games) in the league. It will imperative that the best version of the Bills show up on Monday night. That means some semblance of a running game and the receivers getting some separation. The defense needs to use the old formula of stopping the run and putting Jones under pressure. If they can do that then the Bills can go back to being the top team in AFC East.

Elsewhere in the NFL

Lions Finally Win: A losing streak stretching 15 games, since late last season has finally been snapped and the Lions defeated [Very] Angry Ward’s Vikings on a last -econd play as the clock expired.
Win streaks rare: I how the Patriots have the longest win streak in the league. They are followed by the Dolphins at 6 and Chiefs at 5 games. The league is so topsy-turvy that after them, only 2 teams have streaks more than 2. Any given Sunday, amirite?

College Football News

CFB Final four released: Alabama is at #3 and Georgia #1. Barring a massive, lopsided loss for Georgia, these two sides were going to flip. And that is what happened. A lot of teams – like Notre Dame – were hoping for an Alabama loss, so they could break in… but no such luck. #2 Michigan stomped Iowa to hold their spot and non-Big #5 Cincinnati managed to take care of business in their championship game, so that is your top 4.

Coaching Carousel: I went to look for all the coaching changes as a result of Lincoln Riley going to USC and there have been a few related to it and not related to it.

Oklahoma hired Clemson D-Coordinator Brent Venables as its next head coach, while Notre Dame has promoted defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman to head coach after Brian Kelly left for LSU. Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall is leaving after the bowl game… Colorado State fired  Steve Addazio and Louisiana promoted co-OC Michael Desormeaux to replace Billy Napier – who went to Florida.

Elsewhere, Virginia Tech has hired Penn State D-Coordinator Brent Pry as its head coach… Washington hired Fresno State’s Kalen DeBoer… SMU hired Rhett Lashlee to replace Sonny Dykes, who’s now at TCU… Akron has hired Oregon OC Joe Moorhead, Louisiana Tech has hired Sonny Cumbie, David Cutcliffe is doned att Duke  after 14 years & Rod Carey finished at Temple.

Thanks for reading, comment below and come back tomorrow for our Big Ben Whitney, who is pissed that the Islanders won’t be losing to the Rangers because of a COVID postpo
