NIAGARA FALLS, NY – Happy Monday, and Happy Labor Day. Just remember, besides being a day for barbecues and cookouts, Labor Day celebrates the fight for the 40-hour work week and the 5-day work week—rights that lots of workers now have. A huge shout out to unions for leading that fight. With that, here are the topics for today: Mets Update, Jerry and Micah’s Handshake Deal, College Football.
New York Mets Update
The Mets—like only the Mets can do—started the week by sweeping the Phillies, only to then lose three out of four to the Marlins. There was so much hope after they swept the Phillies that they were going to get hot and maybe win 15 out of 20 or something like that to reverse their losing streak, but they couldn’t do it. They just lost three out of four, and two of those three losses were really winnable. They were up in the first game of the series before allowing late runs. I mean, they had a serious string of errors and bad plays that let the Marlins pull away at the end. And then in game three on Saturday night, they couldn’t finish the comeback from five-nothing. They still made errors and lost 11–8.
The problem for the Mets goes down to the pitching—it’s just not happening. David Peterson was supposed to be there to stop the skid on Saturday night, and he had a horrible appearance. I mean, the pitching was horrible yesterday. Apparently, it’s really the rookies, Nolan McLean and the rookie from Friday night, Jonah Tong, that have done anything. And then that doesn’t get to the bullpen, who, when the game was 8–8, you expect them to help shut it down—but they don’t shut it down. The field is making errors, and then the pitchers can’t do anything but end up giving up a run. Then you go to the bullpen again, and they end up giving up some more runs. No matter how good the Mets’ bats are, and how much money they spent to keep a guy like Alonso and bring in others, the pitching needs to give them a chance. And I don’t know how you fix the pitching with the starters being inconsistent and the bullpen crumbling under pressure.
With the loss last night, they’re now in a very scary position—only four games ahead of the Reds for the final Wild Card spot with maybe 20 games to go. So we’ll see if they can hang on.
Jerry and Micah’s Handshake Deal
It looks like Jerry Jones is just old and lost his mind. He got into his feelings about a handshake deal with Parsons that apparently Parsons wanted to review with his agent. I mean, I don’t even understand. We’re in a new era, and yeah, sure, there’s a handshake deal, but everybody brings their pros into it. This is just madness. The Cowboys can’t afford to lose Parsons. I don’t think whoever they got for him is going to make a difference. This will be remembered as a bad trade, like what the Baltimore Colts got because John Elway didn’t want to come to Baltimore, so they had to trade the pick to Denver. You know we can always laugh at Cowboy fans and say that Jerry is a good thing. Especially this time. College Football… In A Snap (tm)

There were so many college football games that I’m not going to give a massive rundown, because I actually don’t care too much about the rankings—just the things that caught my attention.
Colorado lost a tough one to Georgia Tech. The Colorado offense isn’t where it was—I mean, they lost their QB and like four receivers, so it’s going to take time. But the defense got three turnovers out of the first four drives from Georgia Tech. The Buffaloes only got one touchdown from them, though. So eventually, Georgia Tech fought all the way back into the game and got the win.
Syracuse struggled with Tennessee – they just couldn’t handle them… Notre Dame played better, but they also didn’t really hit their stride until later in the game, and then it just wasn’t enough to overcome the Miami team, who had a good offense and looked very focused on defense.
I also want to give a shout out to The Ohio State University because they lost a bunch of players in the NFL draft. Still, they made Arch Manning and Texas look unimpressive. And it’s always good to see Alabama lose, so congrats to Florida State for roughing up ‘Bama.

Coming up tomorrow is Ben Whitney—his sports takes are almost as brilliant as Jerry Jones’ decisions as Cowboys GM.
